Where to go in Monaco: Oceanographic Museum
In 1910 Prince Albert I, also known as “Prince of the Seas”, founded the world-renowned Oceanographic Museum. The great-great-grandfather of the present ruler of Monaco was a scientist and explorer with an incredible passion for the depths of the sea.
The mere fact that Captain Cousteau had been the museum’s director for more than 30 years is a good reason to visit. The Oceanographic Museum is dedicated to the marine sciences and is home to one of the world’s richest coral reef systems. More than 4,000 sea inhabitants are represented in the museum’s numerous aquariums, including sharks, rays and huge sea turtles. You can spend hours here watching the underwater world.
The magnificent building designed by a French architect Paul Delefortrie, rises from the cliff and has a terrace at the top. There is a playground for kids and an Italian café with a spectacular view for you to enjoy.
