“NORMANDY 6 JUNE 1944: The Extraordinary Story of the Landings” exhibition
7 July 2017 - 20 August 2017
From Friday 7 July to Sunday 20 August, Espace Fontvieille “NORMANDY 6 JUNE 1944: The Extraordinary Story of the Landings” exhibition.
Operation Overlord was the code name for the Battle of Normandy, the Allied operation that launched the successful invasion of German-occupied Western Europe during World War II. The operation was launched on 6 June 1944 with the Normandy landings (Operation Neptune, commonly known as D-Day) and ended on August 25, 1944, after which the Allies crossed the River Seine, liberated Paris and continued their offensive stride against the French-German border.
Until now it is the largest landing operation in history; more than 3 million people who crossed the English Channel from England to Normandy took part in it.
The NORMANDY 44 exhibition will focus at the same time on pedagogical, cultural and historical content, enabling us to address the issues of this essential page in the history of the 20th century. The goal is to cultivate the duty of memory, destined to all generations, especially for the younger ones.
