Music and art is definitely in the forefront of this summer in Monaco with lots of festivals scheduled in the area and various exhibitions and galleries opening up.

For those who like ballet the Viva Maïa – Gala with international star performers on 8 July 2017 is a must. Maïa Plissetskaïa marked the world of dance. Recognized as one of the last «Prima ballerina absoluta», she died in May 2015 after a 50 year career in ballet.

To keep her memory alive, Irma Nioradze has decided to organize a gala with international soloists.
On 2017 July 8th at 9 pm, she invites in Cannes the dancers who carry today the spirit of this great dance lady,  demonstrating the most astonishing technique and the most dramatic expression. Viva Maïa – Gala d’étoiles internationales is produced by ASAKANELI ART in collaboration with the Palais des Festivals de Cannes.

There are two very different concerts this weekend, both are part of the series: the first one is The Stars 80 Tour on the 8th of July 2017, for the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival and the Fight Aids Monaco Night!

It’s already been ten years that the Stars 80 show has been touring all over France. More than three million enthusiastic spectators have already sung and danced to the rhythm of hits that will never go out of fashion, fluorescent wigs screwed onto heads and sequined glasses perched on the end of noses, plunging back into a youth that the stars of these perfectly orchestrated concerts have brought back to life. Makers of hits during a decade that was lavish with them, accompanied by their musicians and dancers, the star singers of the Top 50 hum the tunes that marked an entire epoch at a breakneck pace with no down time for almost three hours. The show will be in full swing as never before with the Stars of the 1980s.

For those who like sports World Boxing Super Series – Draft Gala on July 8 at the Grimaldi Forum should be a very interesting event. 16 stars, one stage: World Boxing Super Series stars to hand-pick opponents during Live Draft Gala in Monaco.

The World Boxing Super Series will kick off in a dramatic fashion on July 8 when the famed Grimaldi Forum will host the official Draft Gala for the Muhammad Ali Trophy, The Greatest Prize in Boxing.

Starting in September, eight top cruiserweights, including the three undefeated world champions Mairis Briedis (WBC), Yunier Dorticos (WBA) and Murat Gassiev (IBF), as well as eight elite super-middleweights, including WBA Super Champion George Groves, will battle out a bracket-style elimination tournament to determine the undisputed number one in each division.

Exhibition on "The World of the Wolf"

Several new exhibitions are opening this weekend in Monaco. Children will enjoy Exhibition on “The World of the Wolf” in partnership with the Alpha Park, The wolves of Mercantour; it is open from Thursday 6 July to Sunday 3 September in Jardin Exotique.

As it has done for the past five years, the Monaco’s Exotic Garden is devoting its summer exhibition to “The World of the Wolf”. In conjunction with the Alpha Park, this Monegasque establishment is exhibiting 26 large-format photos of the wolves of Boréon. NORMANDY

For both children and adults Espace Fontvieille  presents “NORMANDY 6 JUNE 1944: The Extraordinary Story of the Landings” exhibition.

Until now it is the largest landing operation in history; more than 3 million people who crossed the English Channel from England to Normandy took part in it.

The NORMANDY 44 exhibition will focus at the same time on pedagogical, cultural and historical content, enabling us to address the issues of this essential page in the history of the 20th century. The goal is to cultivate the duty of memory, destined to all generations, especially for the younger ones.

A different view on the world is shown in Pavillon Bosio: the Monaco Projects for the Arts presents an exhibition by Takano, “Synaesthesia”.

First personal exhibition of the Japanese artist Aya Takano – painter, drawing artist, author of science fiction and manga. Through twenty-one works, “Synesthesia” reveals its obsessions and its particular relation to the universe. Delicate works populated by young androgynous girls with sharp lines, represented with long legs, large astonished eyes and rose-colored mouths. The universe that was built Aya Takano releases “a feeling of trouble, between eroticism and impertinence” … To discover.

Don’t forget that festival season has started on Cote-d’Azur. Not far from Monaco the music frstival The Nights of the South at Vence is already on. This summer it will take over the square of the Grand-Pin of Vence for eleven dates from 6 to 29 July. This will include the riffs of Pete Doherty, Keziah Jones or Tryo, the Jamaican waves of Alpha Blondy and Inna de Yard, and the pop of Olivia Ruiz or Gérald de Palmas will cross paths Goran Bregovic’s Balkan fever, Blues brothers or the new platinum bomb made In Nice, Møme.
