Municipal Sports Centre Approved for 2017

Planned for 2017, the project was approved during the Municipal Council’s public meeting.  The project will draw 550,000 Euros from the financial fund.

During the budget vote, the mayor approved the decision to create a municipal sports centre on the premises of the nautical stadium.

During the last communal council of the year, elected representatives voted Thursday at noon to release the sum of 550,000 Euros from the municipal financial fund to launch a municipal gymnasium project. The venue will be the communal hall, previously occupied by the Guy-Mierczuk Monaco Fitness Centre, on the site of the Rainier-III nautical stadium. “A preliminary investigation was entrusted to an architect in November 2016, which consists of renovating the premises to create a gym that will be managed and operated by the municipality,” explained the mayor to the elected officials.

Opening in September?

After the session, Georges Marsan confided that the decision to launch the municipal sports hall project was hastily taken, which explains the appeal to the municipal financial fund. A fund, with a balance of 3 million Euros, is backed up by the surplus earnings and the financial products it generates.

The sum will make it possible to start work in the covered space and to also develop a gazebo on the beach of the nautical stadium, to be able to carry out outdoor activities all year round. The elected Jacques Pastor, sports delegate, thanked the entire municipal council for supporting this project, “which was done in a hurried manner with the aim of a nice establishment for Monegasques and residents at the beginning of 2017.” On the occasion of this vote, the municipal council also registered a second withdrawal of 380,000 Euros to continue its plan to overhaul the financial information system of the mayor’s office.

Balanced Budget

The last communal council of the year was devoted to the primary municipal budget vote. A balanced budget with revenue forecasts estimated at 63,500,700 Euros (+ 1.54%) and expenditure at 57,757,600 Euros (+ 3.07%). Amongst equipment spending planned in 2017 on behalf of the State, the town hall must create a second columbarium (450,000 Euros). Access to the cemetery for people with reduced mobility is also planned (200,000 Euros) and renovations to the Rampe Major public toilets(200,000 Euros). Additionally, twelve new posts will be created in the services of the town hall, in particular at the General Secretariat.
