41st International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo – There’s a first time for everything!

41st International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo
From the 19th to the 29th January 2017

The Organising Committee of the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo constantly strives to innovate in order to ensure that circus remains a living art-form, whilst also keeping alive the tradition of circus. Well, innovation is definitely at the heart of this 41st Festival! As proof, and as mentioned in previous press releases, Otto Wessely, the funny and eccentric magician who has starred at the Crazy Horse and other renowned places, will be present in the big top for the first time, as will the Zapachny brothers (Russia) who will present their mixed big cat act, featuring 14 tigers and lions, for the first time outside of their country. Also making her debut in Monaco, the Organising Committee has invited an artiste from Ethiopia, Rich Miteku, who began practising the very demanding discipline of contortion at 8 years old. Her act is astonishing, especially as she keeps on smiling! Another innovation: the Skokov troupe from the Rosgoscirk will bring an exceptional Russian swing act featuring 8 all-women acrobats – a first in circus history! The audience will be astounded by the skill of the flyers as they perform double, and even triple, somersaults. It will also be the first time a kangaroo has entered the famous Fontvieille ring. Presented by Marek Jama, the group of exotic animals from the Charles Knie circus is made up of five camels, six llamas, two Watusi with giant horns, four zebras, a zebu, a Hungarian cow, two Andalusian horses and … a kangaroo! And, once again for the first time, the Fontvieille big top will welcome two large wheels of death: placed above the ring and turning on the same axis, but in opposite directions, they enable the four artistes of the Columbian Gerlings troupe to show off their death-defying act!
