Exhibition of photographs by Matthieu Ricard

11 October 2017 - 9 November 2017

Выставка фотографий Матье Рикара

Exhibition of photographs by Matthieu Ricard organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs on from Wednesday 11 October to Thursday 9 November, from 1 pm to 7 pm (except Mondays) Salle d’Exposition, Quai Antoine Ier.

On the initiative of the Department of Cultural Affairs, the Salle du Quai Antoine Ier is hosting an exhibition of photographs by Matthieu Ricard until 9 November.   A hundred or so photographs are on display, depicting the personal journey of this famous Buddhist monk and neurobiologist through the world of the Himalayas.

“A hymn to beauty … that’s how I think of my humble photographic work.  During the fifty years I have spent in the Himalayas, I have been very fortunate to live among some great Tibetan masters. […].  I have also been able to experience the daily life of the Himalayan people, the intimacy of the monasteries, the immensity of the Tibetan high plateaux, the magnificence of the Nepalese mountains and the serenity of the Bhutanese valleys.”

Matthieu Ricard is a Buddhist monk, author, photographer, scientist and founder of humanitarian projects in Asia.  He first began taking photos at the age of ten.  He says he is constantly learning through the works of photographers such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Ernst Haas and Yann Arthus-Bertrand.  His works have featured in numerous exhibitions throughout the world and have been published in magazines such as National Geographic France, Animan, L’Express and Terre Sauvage.
