Stefan Zweig excels in describing the inner torments of his heroes. His short story, “Fear,” is the best example. Built like a thriller, the play takes place at the breathtaking pace of Irene’s anguish, a young adulterous woman hunted by her lover’s strange companion. Handling? Hallucination? How to escape this endless turmoil? We are witnessing the flickering of a couple that no longer understands each other … until the denouement, a real coup de theater.
This piece, with a cinematic aesthetic, is inspired by the world of Hitchcock, including the remarkable film “Fenêtre sur cour”. A thrilling show.
