DESCRIPTION:Following the first part\, entitled Démarche d’un poète (Approach of a poet\, act) with reference to Jean Cocteau’s key work\, the second part (Act II) completes the introduction of this approach by integrating Jean Cocteau’s passionate links with stage. \nJean Cocteau\, always in avant-gardes\, is looking for a modern and popular theater mixing tragedy\, comedy\, vaudeville and boulevard. He thus participates actively in the operation of destruction of the classical and academic heritage following the First World War\, by a frenzied mixture of genres\, including the noble genres (ballet\, theater) and popular\, including jazz\, cinema\, the circus and the music hall\, for which he has a sincere and well-informed taste. \nThis new course gives way to the crazy and sparkling comedy with The Parade and The Married of the Eiffel Tower\, but also tragedy\, dance and multiple artistic collaborations.

SUMMARY:Michel Blazy exhibition in Villa Sauber
DESCRIPTION:Michel Blazy exhibition from Saturday 16 December to Sunday 18 March from 10 am to 6 pm Nouveau Musée National – Villa Sauber. \nThe NMNM presents at the Villa Sauber a new monumental work by Michel Blazy entitled Collection de Chaussures (2015-2017)\, co-produced by the NMNM and the Monaco Cultural Affairs Department for the last edition of the Venice Biennale. Shoe Collection is made up of a metal structure as a frame\, inside which a light source is diffused and water conveyed\, all serving as food for different species of plants growing in 27 pairs of worn sneakers. \nIn two other rooms are presented works by Michel Blazy from the NMNM collections: Peau de Bête (2011) and Nature Molle (2004)\, which will be activated and presented for the first time in Monaco. \nMichel Blazy\, born in Monaco\, has acquired an international reputation thanks to its installations integrating living materials.  \nThroughout the exhibition\, visitors will be able to follow and document the slow transformation of these works in perpetual change.

SUMMARY:Exhibition of Alfredo Volpi\, The poetics of color
DESCRIPTION:The NMNM presents the very first retrospective in a public institution outside Brazil of Alfredo Volpi: a major Brazilian artist born in Lucca (Italy) in 1896 and who moved to São Paulo’s Cambuci Italian neighborhood in 1898. Alfredo Volpi died in 1988 in São Paulo. \nThe aim of the exhibition is to retrace Volpi’s career\, starting from his early oil paintings in the ’40s – mostly landscapes and ‘cityscapes’ – to the works of the ’50s\, ’60s and ’70s\, in which the same subjects are metamorphosed into colorful geometric compositions\, oneiric archetypes of the façades of buildings and festive banners\, and a humble and poetic ‘algorithm’ that gives Volpi the chance to make infinite color variations on the same subject. \n\nThe exhibition features more than 70 works retracing the history of this independent and self-taught painter\, whose fascination for the Italian early Renaissance\, for Matisse\, Morandi and the sphere of popular culture led him to win the Best National Prize at the 2nd São Paolo Biennale with ‘Di Cavalcanti’\, and intrigued the celebrated English critic Herbert Read\, who described him as an artist “… aware of the general movement\, but who created something contemporary with an indigenous theme: the shapes and colors of Brazilian modern architecture.”\n\nVolpi is probably the most-loved Brazilian artist of the 20th century\, but has remained little known outside of Latin America until now.

SUMMARY:9th International Monaco and the Mediterranean Meetings
DESCRIPTION:The Ninth International Monaco and the Mediterranean Meeting\, held under the High Patronage of H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince\, will take place on 15 & 16 March 2018 at the Oceanographic Museum on the theme of “Artists and Intellectuals in the Mediterranean – Their Place\, their Roles and their Challenges.”  The aim of this international colloquium\, which is open to the public\, is two-fold – to recall the rich cultural history of the Mediterranean and highlight creators’ ability to find new ways to express the Mediterranean spirit. \nThese Meetings will include three round tables and a film screening \n\nThe first round table\, entitled “The Mediterranean:  Inspiration and Circulation” will enable historians of art and ideas to discuss the emergence of a glorified idea of the Mediterranean between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries\, based on discussions on:\n\nHow\, and by whom\, was this idea created?  How has it changed and in which areas has it been disseminated?  How did we move away from the idea of a sunny Mediterranean to a tormented Mediterranean? \n\nA second round table on “Mediterranean Literature:  Cross-cutting Dialogues” will give the floor to writers who will give accounts of their relationship with the central issues of the Mediterranean basin:  identity\, exile\, religious and political crises\, the environment\, climate change\, etc.\nThe final round table\, on “Art in Motion\,” will feature accounts by visual artists\, architects\, film directors and directors of museums on the following subjects:  What are their sources of inspiration?  How do they fit into a globalised world?  Do they feel as if they are participating in a common Mediterranean cultural identity?  Do they have all the means to express themselves?\n\nFinally\, the closing evening will be devoted to a film screening in the presence of the director.

SUMMARY:Monte-Carlo Spring Arts Festival ("Printemps des Arts")
DESCRIPTION:One of the most exciting cultural events of the year\, the annual Spring Arts Festival of Monaco\, attracts talented artists from all over the world to entertain visitors with art\, music\, theater and dance at different venues throughout the Principality. Performances of the world-famous Philharmonic Orchestra Monte Carlo and Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo are also part of the programme. \nThe Printemps des Arts de Monte-Carlo festival\, created in 1970 at the instigation of Princess Grace of Monaco\, has been presided over by H.R.H. the Princess of Hanover since 1984. \nIn 2011\, the festival was transformed into 4 weekends and welcomed whirling dervishes along with the SWR Baden-Baden and Freiburg Symphony Orchestra. \nIn 2014 the festival celebrated its 30th anniversary\, thirty years of cultural adventures\, thirty years of the Printemps des Arts except for one: in 2005 the festival was stopped after the death of Prince Rainier III. Le Printemps\, the Principality and the world grieved for their “builder prince”. Their Royal Highnesses Prince Albert and Princess Caroline continue to support the cultural vitality of the Principality.
