SUMMARY:Ettore Spalletti at the NMNM\, pure colour
DESCRIPTION:A pure\, intense and powerful exhibition of colour. The NMNM (New National Museum of Monaco) at Villa Paloma is exhibiting one of the major artists of Italian minimalism\, Ettore Spalletti. One would think that his art is suggestive of the Arte Povera even if there is no metaphysical recourse to objects and no claim of a militant attitude. \nLargely exhibited in Europe and around the world\, at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris or the Guggenheim in New York\, Ettore Spalletti has also represented Italy four times at the Venice Biennale. \n \nFor this artist\, both a painter and a sculptor\, colour comes in an apparent simplicity\, and nakedness\, but there is a sophisticated technique behind it. To create his elegant works\, Ettore Spalletti mixes chalk\, pigment and oil on wooden panels. He keeps renewing it until he obtains these smooth and velvety surfaces in delicate tones opening our mind to the infinite.

DESCRIPTION:“Ombre d’azur\, transparence” (“Shadow of azure\, transparency”)\, a project by Ettore Spalletti from Thursday 18 April to Sunday 3 November 2019\, Nouveau Musée National de Monaco – Villa Paloma. \nThe Nouveau Musée National de Monaco presents a new project by Italian painter and sculptor Ettore Spalletti. An exhibition of forty works\, including both important new creations and some of the artist’s historic pieces\, has been specially put together for the Villa Paloma. \nThe project is presented as part of a programme of exhibitions dedicated to artists including Thomas Schütte\, Richard Artschwager\, Erik Boulatov\, Mike Nelson\, and Alfredo Volpi\, who developed their own research\, independently of artistic trends and movements\, completely focused on the fusion of the arts and the concrete experience of space. \nA 90 minute documentary about Ettore Spalletti\, written and directed by Alessandra Galletta with the participation of the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco\, produced by the independent Milan-based company LAGALLA23 Productions\, will also have its international première.

DESCRIPTION:From 14 May to 15 October 2019\, the Grands Appartements (State rooms) in the Palace of Monaco will host an exceptional exhibition\, Monaco\, 6 May 1955. The Story of a Meeting (Monaco\, 6 mai 1955. Histoire d’une rencontre). \nOrganised by the Palace of Monaco Archive and the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco for the 90th anniversary of Grace Kelly’s birth\, this original new exhibition will place her first meeting with Prince Rainier III of Monaco in context and perspective. \nAfter winning the Academy Award for Best Actress in March 1955 for her role in The Country Girl\, Grace Kelly had been on the French Riviera the previous year to shoot Alfred Hitchcock’s film To Catch a Thief\, which features an unforgettable scene on the heights of the Principality. \nAs guest star at the 8th Cannes Film Festival\, Grace Kelly agreed to change her schedule for a last-minute meeting with the Prince of Monaco on the afternoon of 6 May 1955. Organised by Pierre Galante\, journalist with Paris Match\, this meeting\, which almost never happened\, was immortalised by Michel Simon\, photographer for the magazine\, and the Irish photographer Edward Quinn\, who had long been working on the Riviera. \nThe photographs by these two privileged witnesses will be displayed together for the very first time. Whether carefully posed or taken on the fly\, these snapshots of different formats attest to the interest and high technical and artistic quality of press photographers’ work. \nDesigned as a photographic tour through the Palace State rooms\, this exhibition follows in Grace Kelly’s footsteps in the very places where she met Prince Rainier\, around  the dress she wore that day\, along with personal items\, letters\, testimonials\, newspaper clips and film excerpts. All this documentation shows how the reportage\, which went virtually unnoticed at the time\, became legend\, with its memories and anecdotes. \nLess than a year after this brief but decisive meeting\, Prince Rainier III married Grace Patricia Kelly\, on 18 and 19 April 1956 in Monaco.
