SUMMARY:Exhibition of Shimabuku: The 165-metre Mermaid and Other Stories
DESCRIPTION:From February 19\, 2020 to October 3\, 2021 Nouveau Musée National de Monaco — Villa Paloma will be displaying works of Shimabuku put together in the exhibition called The 165-metre Mermaid and Other Stories. \nIn the style of an epic poem\, the exhibition The 165-metre Mermaid and Other Stories recounts the artist Shimabuku’s adventures around the world\, from his native Japan to the Principality of Monaco via Brazil\, Australia\, and many other countries. \nThe artist’s texts form the storyline for a journey that brings together over 20 installations\, films\, sculptures and photographs created over the last 30 years. \nOn a visit to Fukuoka Shimabuku discovered the legend and relics of a mermaid whose body was 165 metres long and decided to make this story his own and expand it\, buying a long rope also 165 metres long. Taken around the world\, this rope brings him closer to the fish-woman and becomes a vector linking fiction to reality\, past to present and Japan to the different countries where the work is presented. Acquired by the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco in 2018\, the installation I’m travelling with 165-metre Mermaid (1998–ongoing) forms the starting point for the exhibition and is enriched by the presence of artefacts produced in Monaco by different craftspeople invited in turn to make this story into a work of their own. \nShimabuku\, Symbiosis (hyacinth\, black goldfish)\, 1992. C-print on aluminium\, picture 70 x 47\,5 cm; 76 x 54 x 4\,7 cm framed. Edition of 5 © Shimabuku. Photo credit: Marc Domage. Courtesy of the artist and Air de Paris\, Romainville.

SUMMARY:Marginalia. Inside the Comics Arts Collections
DESCRIPTION:Presented at the NMNM-Villa Sauber from April 1 to September 5\, 2021\, the exhibition Marginalia. Inside the Comics Arts Collections is an exploration of comic book art\, a young art born at the same time as film and psychoanalysis\, and which has frequently opted for marginality over convention\, humour over academicism and counter-culture over received ideas. \n\nFollowing Freud’s traumarbeit (dream-work) model\, Marginalia. Inside the Comic Arts Collections invites visitors to discover over 350 works by some of the greatest comic book artists and honours the passion of those who find their work an endless source of fascination. \n\nMarginalia are the small drawings located in the margins of Medieval manuscripts. Often secular\, sometimes droll\, always fascinating\, they form a dialogue with the texts that they illuminate\, explain or criticise and can be seen as the origins of comic books\, a combination of drawing and writing which blossomed in the 20th century.\n\nMarginalia. Inside the Comic Arts Collections  will be accompanied by a fun and lavish publication (co-published by the NMNM and Glénat) which intends to square the enjoyment of reading comics with the demands of an appropriate scientific approach through contributions from Jean-Luc Fromental\, Thierry Groensteen\, Didier Pasamonik and Numa Sadoul.\n\nSource: www.nmnm.mc

SUMMARY:"Summer at Port Hercule"
DESCRIPTION:“Summer at Port Hercule” (carousel\, crazy karting\, basketball playgrounds\, bouncy castle\, and more) from Wednesday 14 July to Sunday 22 August 2021\, in Port Hercule. \n\n\n\nWith the traditional and very popular carousel\, the crazy kart (small electric karts that can turn on themselves) and two basketball playgrounds (an inflatable structure for children and a 3×3 field for adults)\, there is no doubt that “Summer at Port Hercule” on Quai Albert Ier will satisfy both Monegasques and residents as well as tourists. \n\nIn addition\, every Wednesday and Saturday (excluding fireworks evenings on July 31 and August 7)\, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.\, the Town Hall offers an introduction class to radio-controlled vehicles in partnership with the company MC Clic. It’s available from the age of 5\, sessions of 15 minutes maximum (depending on attendance)\, 2 participants per session. The vehicles are loaned by MC Clic. \n\nThe installation of shaded benches and the presence of plants\, in particular succulents\, allow a cool stopover in the Port. \n\nFinally\, as part of a partnership with the Grimaldi Forum\, a parallel is drawn with the exhibition Alberto Giacometti – A retrospective\, the marvelous reality with the installation of explanatory panels.

SUMMARY:"L’Été Danse!" by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo
DESCRIPTION:For this 2021 edition of “L’Été Danse!” Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo are offering two series of shows which will bring home to us the extent to which dance is a living art. To begin with\, from 15 to 17 July\, the company will perform two creations imagined by Mimoza Koike and Julien Guérin\, both from Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. After a period when choreographic art has been thwarted\, support for creation has taken on an even greater importance. For more than thirty years\, Jean-Christophe Maillot has pursued a policy aiming to help talent emerge\, and here he has given carte blanche to these young choreographers whose sensitive world cannot but question our relationship to the current world. \nFrom 22 to 24 July\, the dancers of the company will take us to the shores of the Mediterranean\, accompanied on stage by musicians who carry this southern identity in their heart of hearts. Two pieces will invite us on a journey. The first\, In Memoriam by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui was created in 2004 for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo (two years earlier\, this young Belgian choreographer of Moroccan origin received the Nijinsky Award for Emerging Choreographers at the Monaco Dance Forum\, a prize which contributed to launching his career). The A Filetta group which embodies the excellence of Corsican song will lend its voices to the dancers’ movements. The second piece will be Core Meu by Jean-Christophe Maillot. Acclaimed by audiences which burn to join the dancers at every performance\, the ballet will be another chance to hear live Antonio Castrignano who has given a new face to the Tarentella of Puglia. \nThrough these two highlights\, a summer breeze from Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will celebrate the grand return of live shows. \nJuly\, 15\, 16 and 17 at 7.00 pm – 2 creations: Tsunagu – Mimoza Koike and Le Temps du Tendre – Julien Guerin – Salle Prince Pierre \nJuly\, 22\, 23 and 24 at 7.00 pm – 2 pieces: In Memoriam – Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Core Meu – Jean-Christophe Maillot – Salle des Princes \nAcadémie Princesse Grace show – June 26 – 7.00 pm and June 27 – 4.00 pm – Salle Prince Pierre

SUMMARY:Evening open air screening of Jodorowsky's Dune
DESCRIPTION:Evening open air screening of Jodorowsky’s Dune\, 2013 by Frank Pavich on Thursday July 22\, at 9 p.m. at NMNM\, Villa Paloma. Free admission. \nDocumentary\, Science fiction \nReleased in 1965\, Frank Herbert’s book Dune was a worldwide hit and became the world’s best-selling science fiction book. In 1975\, the French producer Michel Seydoux offered Alejandro Jodorowsky a very ambitious adaptation of Dune\, at the cinema. The latter\, already director of the cult films El Topo and The Sacred Mountain\, accepts. \nHe then brought together his artistic “warriors”\, including Jean (Moebius) Giraud\, Dan O’Bannon\, Hans-Ruedi Giger and Chris Foss who were to be part of all the science fiction cinematographic adventures of the turn of the century (Star Wars\, Alien \, Blade Runner\, Total Recal etc.). The cast brings together Mick Jagger\, Orson Welles\, Salvador Dali\, David Carradine or Amanda Lear\, but also his young son Brontis Jodorowsky\, Pink Floyd and Magma agree to sign the music for the film… The production team is looking for $ 5 million to finalize the budget and comes up against the fear of Hollywood studios who fear Jodorowsky’s temperament … \nJodorowsky’s Dune retraces the extraordinary epic of this ghost film which was to be “the greatest film in the history of cinema” and forever change the face of cinema.
