SUMMARY:Exhibition "Newton\, Riviera" in Villa Sauber
DESCRIPTION:“Newton\, Riviera”\, an exhibition from Friday 17 June to Wednesday 13 November 2022\, in Nouveau Musée National de Monaco – Villa Sauber. \nThe title of the exhibition clearly circumscribes a geography\, that of the French Riviera to Bordighera\, Italy\, which Helmut Newton photographed from the 1960s until his death in the early 2000s. Newton\, Riviera is a pretext for a new look at the work of one of the 20th century’s foremost photographers through a fascinating collection of images\, some that have become famous\, others rarely displayed to the public. \n \nIt was here too\, that he produced a great many portraits of “beautiful people”\, some of whom had taken up residence in Monaco\, others merely passing through. His works from this period also include portraits of the stars of the Ballet de Monte-Carlo and the Princely Family. In Monaco\, Newton finally did landscapes\, a genre of photography that he had never previously explored. There\, he also developed “Yellow Press”\, one of his most personal series\, full of strange\, disquietingly glamorous images inspired by crime scenes. \nWhile Newton\, Riviera focuses heavily on this period\, the exhibition also looks at Newton’s historic links with the Riviera. Through 280 photographs\, we discover a dazzling Newton’s ironic yet fascinated interpretation of a way of life characterised by ease and elegance\, a world dominated by appearance and superficiality. A veritable living theatre\, in which he was both a player on the stage\, and a privileged member of the audience.

SUMMARY:Exhibition "Christian Bérard\, Excentrique Bébé"
DESCRIPTION:“Christian Bérard\, Excentrique Bébé”\, an exhibition organized from Saturday 9 July to Sunday 16 October 2022\, in Nouveau Musée National de Monaco – Villa Paloma. \n“Christian Bérard\, Excentrique Bébé” continues the NMNM programme of exhibitions dedicated to the revolutionary aesthetics developed by Serge Diaghilev in Monte-Carlo. Heralding certain aspects of contemporary art\, the cross-disciplinary approach taken by the founder of the Ballets Russes brought radical transformation to the decorative arts during the 1910s and ’20s and had a lasting influence on visual and performance art to this day. \n@NMNM\nFollowing the exhibitions “Portraits d’Intérieurs and Designing Dreams\, a Celebration of Leon Bakst”\, Célia Bernasconi\, chief Curator at the NMNM\, is extending\, for this new project\, the dialogue begun in 2014 with the artist Nick Mauss\, with the purpose of presenting the extraordinary modernity of Christian Bérard\, affectionately referred to as Bébé by his friends.

SUMMARY:Exhibition "Gardens of Monaco"
DESCRIPTION:The Federation of French Groups of Monaco presents the exhibition “Gardens of Monaco”\, which will be held from 7 October to 5 November at the Maison de France in Monaco. SUMMARY:Monaco’s Philosophical Meetings: Günther Anders\, thinker of the nuclear event
DESCRIPTION:Monaco’s Philosophical Meetings are making a comeback on 12-13 October for the seventh year. Created and presided over by Charlotte Casiraghi\, the meetings will open with the theme of dreams and close with the theme of war. \nOn Wednesday\, October 12\, 2022 at 12 -13h30 in l’Espace PhiloMonaco the discussion is called “Günther Anders\, thinker of the nuclear event”. \nIn June 1953\, Gunther Anders engaged in a long correspondence with one of the American pilots of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima\, Claude Eatherly. This is not the pilot of the Enola Gay\, who actually dropped the bomb on August 6\, 1945\, Paul Tibbets. Claude Eatherly was the pilot of the Straight Flush\, the reconnaissance pilot who\, an hour before the atomic bombing\, had flown over Hiroshima in order to determine if the meteorological\, atmospheric and “military” conditions were favorable for the dropping of the bomb. After the bombing\, and following a first suicide attempt in 1950\, Claude Eatherly was interned in a psychiatric hospital of the American army. Eatherly categorically refused to be hailed as a national hero for his part in the bombing of Hiroshima despite enormous pressure from the American authorities on him. He suffered from severe depressions\, anxiety attacks and obviously deep remorse. He was followed by psychiatric treatment at the Veterans’ Administration Hospital\, located in the small town of Waco\, Texas. Gunther Anders engages in a long and powerful correspondence with the American pilot. This is extremely significant for his own philosophical approach and for the interpretation of contemporary society resulting from the Second World War. \nThe philosopher particularly seeks in his letters to reassure those who will become a friend and a fellow traveler in the protest and the anti-nuclear fight. But he also seeks\, if not above all\, to describe and grasp in what and how\, through the nuclear question\, our era is entirely surrounded by an unprecedented proliferation of technology. This\, far from leading to the improvement of the human being\, locks him up in a logic that could lead him to his self-extinction.

SUMMARY:Philosophy workshop for children: What's the use of dreaming?
DESCRIPTION:Monaco’s Philosophical Meetings are making a comeback on 12-13 October for the seventh year. Created and presided over by Charlotte Casiraghi\, the meetings will open with the theme of dreams and close with the theme of war. \nPhilosophy workshop for children on Wednesday\, October 12\, 2022 – “What is the point of dreaming? at 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in Espace PhiloMonaco. \nLearn to listen to each other and think together. \nA philosophy workshop\, what is it? It’s a discussion between children. But this is not just any discussion. From a story\, a cartoon or a work of art\, the children dialogue freely with each other on a question of philosophy. On this question\, there is a lot to be said and that is why children take so much pleasure in philosophizing. \nSay what you mean and mean what you say. \nDuring a philosophy workshop\, there is never any question of imposing a single way of thinking on children. On the contrary\, with the help of an experienced facilitator\, budding philosophers learn to think\, to listen to others and to express their own ideas. Philosophy workshops are a practice of listening and offer children the opportunity to get to know each other better while developing their tolerance towards others and their differences. \nOn Wednesday\, October 12\, the children will build a discussion around the question “What is the point of dreaming?”. They will wonder\, for example\, whether we should believe in our dreams. Based on a cartoon extract\, children will be invited to discuss what they think of dreams\, the difference between dreams and reality and the usefulness of believing in their dreams. \nAlicia Polzella Gauduel is a practicing philosopher\, facilitator of philosophy workshops with children and trainer for adults. She studied philosophy at Paris I Sorbonne-Panthéon University. She holds a University Diploma in philosophy with children and adolescents at school and in the city (University of Nantes/UNESCO). \nParents will be welcomed and will be able to chat with the facilitator before slipping away to let the children philosophize among themselves. \nFree and open to children aged 7 to 10
