DESCRIPTION:Exhibition: “The Early Days of Télé Monte-Carlo\, 1954-1974​” is held from Monday 25 March 2024 to Friday 31 January 2025\, from 10 am to 5.30 pm (5 pm on Fridays)\, in Institut Audiovisuel de Monaco. \nThis exhibition is looking at the first 20 years of Monaco’s TV channel launched in 1954. A selection of archives and objects will take you back in time\, to the very earliest days of colour television. Organised by the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco\, the exhibition features items entrusted by Télé Monte-Carlo for safekeeping\, documents from partner institutions\, and materials kindly loaned by private individuals.

SUMMARY:Exhibition of Francisco Tropa – Paesine in Villa Paloma
DESCRIPTION:The NMNM presents a monographic exhibition by Portuguese artist Francisco Tropa\, specially conceived for the Villa Paloma and featuring a previously unseen selection of sculptures\, drawings\, films and light projections. \nThe exhibition takes its names from pietre paesine (imaged stones)\, whose geological designs are evocative of painted landscapes\, on the boundary of figuration and abstraction. This idea of an analogy between nature and technique is at the heart of Francisco Tropa’s work\, which focuses on the conditions of appearance and perception of an image. \nAt Villa Paloma\, just a few yards from the famous “Observatory cave” that was occupied in the Palaeolithic period\, Tropa seeks with humour and delicacy to reinterpret the origins of sculpture and its formal vocabulary\, borrowing from prehistoric Venuses and classical Pietà\, all the way up to minimalist works from the last century. Through a form of “anarchaeology”\, it obliterates any attempt to create a historical account and deconstructs  the very space of the museum itself\, turning it (back) into a platonic cave. \nPresented with ambiguous materials and images of unfathomable depth\, the spectator is invited to a total experience of sculpture\, from its material forms to its symbolic projections.

DESCRIPTION:The Philosophical Meetings of Monaco continue with a talk “Love\, Desire\, and Sexuality” on Thursday 16 January 2025\, from 7 pm to 9 pm in Théâtre Princesse Grace. \nPassionate love\, all heat and intensity\, is a heady mix of desire and sexuality. But these three concepts are not always aligned. Love can exist without sexuality\, desire can exist without love\, and sexuality without desire. Each has its own ways\, shapes\, and aims. Desire\, by nature insatiable\, becomes tyranical\, while sexuality remains solitary and auto-erotic. Fusing together love\, desire\, and pleasure is a utopian dream\, but humanity persists\, drawn along by the sheer power of these experiences\, in spite of their contradictions. For although they can be a source of pain\, love\, desire\, and pleasures bring light into our lives\, giving us the power to love\, dream\, and overcome the impossible.
