DESCRIPTION:Exhibition “CINÉAM\, the Monaco independent film-makers club” is held from Monday 17 March 2025 to Friday 30 January 2026\, from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm and 1.30 pm to 5.30 pm in Institut Audiovisuel de Monaco. \nThis exhibition looks at the cinematographic work of Cinéam\, from its beginnings in the 1950s to the advent of video and the end of the 1980s\, giving visitors a unique insight into the amateur filmmakers’ club and its artisanal – even family-centric – approach to the cinematic arts\, and showcasing its finest productions\, which illustrate their own account of the Principality and its history.

DESCRIPTION:The Valkyrie by Richard Wagner will be on stage of the Monte-Carlo Opera from 23 to 29 January 2026. \nFriday\, January 23\, 2026 – 7:00 pm (Gala)\nSunday\, January 25\, 2026 – 3:00 pm\nTuesday\, January 27\, 2026 – 7:00 pm\nThursday\, January 29\, 2026 – 7:00 pm \nOpera in three acts\nMusic by Richard Wagner (1813-1883)\nComplete libretto by Richard Wagner\nFirst performance: Munich\, Royal Theatre\, June 26\, 1870 \nNew production \nIn this part of Wagner’s Ring Cycle\, we witness the consequences of the events of Das Rheingold: the ring that Wotan\, in his thirst for supremacy\, stole from Alberich\, brings its own new wave of destruction. By the end of this section\, Wotan is nothing more than a broken soul who has lost his wife’s respect\, banished his favorite daughter\, caused the deaths of his beloved children\, and relinquished his divine power. \nThree important female figures dominate The Valkyrie: Sieglinde\, a young mortal woman\, who falls in love with and becomes pregnant by Siegmund before discovering that he is in fact her long-lost twin and\, like her\, Wotan’s illegitimate child. The second act features a striking confrontation between Wotan and his wife Fricka\, who urges him to submit to laws more universal than the power of any god. We also discover Brünnhilde\, whom we will follow for the rest of the Ring. A tomboy and carefree at the beginning\, she evolves into a compassionate woman who faces without hesitation the expulsion from Valhalla and the loss of her divinity\, a harsh punishment for having helped Siegmund and Sieglinde in the darkest moments of their existence.

SUMMARY:Saint Devota Festival Celebrations
DESCRIPTION:The young Devota was martyred around the year 304 in Corsica\, in the town of Lucciana. It is said that her body was placed on a boat by fishermen\, and washed ashore in Monaco on 27 January. \nThe Saint Devota has always been celebrated by Monegasques\, closely linked to Monaco and its Princes\, and her image appears in every church in the Principality\, and on the currency. She is the protective spirit of the Monegasque identity\, whose relics were prayed to in joy and suffering. The first book written in Monegasque by the great poet Louis Notari was naturally titled “A Legenda de Santa Devota”. \nEvery year\, the feast of Saint Devota is celebrated joyfully. The festivities begin on the morning of 26 January\, at the Church of Saint Devota\, with the Mass of the Traditions pronounced in the Monegasque language. \nIn the early evening\, the Procession of Saint Devota takes place at the Port\, followed by the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament in the Church of Saint Devota\,  in the presence of the Principality’s most senior personalities. A member of the Communal Council hands the clergy the relics of the Saint brought in by sea. \nAfterwards\, a symbolic boat is burned in memory of Saint Devota\, by H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince and the Princely Family. After the burning\, there is a firework display at the Port of Monaco\, organised by the Mayor of Monaco. \nOn the morning of 27 January\, a Pontifical High Mass is usually celebrated at the Cathedral by Monsignor the Archbishop of Monaco\, in the presence of the Sovereign Prince\, followed by a solemn procession on the Rock (blessing of the Palace\, the City and the Sea).
