SUMMARY:The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner
DESCRIPTION:The Flying Dutchman by Richard Wagner\, organized by the Monte-Carlo Opera\, will be on stage of the Grimaldi Forum on Sunday 2 November 2025 at 3 pm. \nRomantic opera in three acts\nMusic and libretto by Richard Wagner (1813-1883)\nPremiere: Dresden\, Königliches Hoftheater\, January 2\, 1843 \nMusical Director | Gianluca Marcianò\nChoirmaster | Stefano Visconti \nDaland | Albert Dohmen\nSenta | Asmik Grigorian\nErik | Daniel Behle\nMary | Angharad Lyddon\nThe Pilot | Trystan Llŷr Griffiths\nThe Dutchman | Sir Bryn Terfel \nChorus of the Monte-Carlo Opera\nMonte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra \nThe common threads that run through the season are woven from this first evening: a dive into mythology\, the dreamlike world\, and the power of the feminine. In this Wagner opera\, the ancestral myth of the cursed sailor seems to be the expression of a tormented spirit. In order to round the Cape of Good Hope\, a Dutch sailor cursed God and the forces of nature. For his actions\, he is condemned to wander the seas forever\, only able to disembark every seven years until he finds a wife faithful in life and in death. Senta\, an exalted young Norwegian woman\, and her friends sit at the spinning wheel. Although promised to the hunter Erik\, she is seduced by the description of a mysterious man. Senta’s father returns from a voyage with a haggard guest\, whom she identifies as the object of her dreams. When the two declare their mutual love\, Erik bursts in. The foreign sailor is none other than the Flying Dutchman\, once again betrayed by women. To save him from his damnation\, Senta throws herself from a nearby cliff. The music of this early Wagner opera depicts the force of the elements as romantically as the feeling of love. But he also introduces a major theme of his later works: if men can sin\, women must redeem themselves…

SUMMARY:Opera de Monte-Carlo: Aida
DESCRIPTION:Opera de Monte-Carlo presents Aida by Giuseppe Verdi with the Choir of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra on Sunday 16 November 2025 at 3 pm in the Grimaldi Forum Monaco. \nSunday 16 November 2025 – 15h\nThursday 20 November 2025 – 20h\nSaturday 22 November 2025 – 20h \nSalle des Princes – Grimaldi Forum Monaco \nTickets starting at 40€ \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMelodramma in four acts\nMusic by Giuseppe Verdi (1813-1901)\nLibretto by Antonio Ghislanzoni\, based on a scenario by François Auguste Ferdinand Mariette reworked by Camille du Locle\nPremiere: Cairo\, Khedival Opera House\, 24 december 1871 \nProduction of the Rome Opera House \nSet in a pseudo-historic vision of Ancient Egypt\, Giuseppe Verdi’s Aida depicts a dramatic clash between Aida and Amneris\, haughty princesses battling for the valiant warrior Radames’s love. Aida had been commissioned for the inauguration of the Suez Canal\, hence its reputation for cinemascopic dimensions – elephants included. The first Monaco performance in 1884 had to suffer cuts in the mass scenes due to the size of the Salle Garnier. In 2025\, this poses problems no longer since Davide Livermore and his team can work in the expanse of the Grimaldi Forum where they have already proven an amazing creativity in using modern technology for breathtaking scenery. \nAt closer examination\, however\, her numerous arias\, duets and trios reveal Aida’s intimate chamber musical side\, which dominates most of the opera’s acts. Verdi’s writing for the voice and the colourful orchestral part are at their best when depicting what were often called “female weapons”: charm and seduction\, slander\, deception\, and – once defeated – self-destruction and ruining of the cherished object. In such situations\, beautiful and refined singing counts. Enjoy a stellar cast\, which shows you both sides of this magnificent opera: its grandeur\, and its fragility! \nConductor | Massimo Zanetti\nDirector | Davide Livermore\nSets | Giò Forma\nCostumes | Gianluca Falaschi\nLighting design | Antonio Castro\nVideos | D-Wok\nChoirmaster | Stefano Visconti\nThe King | Antonio Di Matteo\nAmneris | Marie-Nicole Lemieux\nAida | Anna Pirozzi\nRadamès | Arsen Soghomonyan\nRamfis | Erwin Schrott\nAmonasro | Artur Rucinski\nVoice of the Priestess | Galia Bakalov\nA messenger | Vincenzo di Nocera

SUMMARY:Opera de Monte-Carlo: Bonsoir Monte-Carlo
DESCRIPTION:Opera de Monte-Carlo: Bonsoir Monte-Carlo\, Great Review – Josephine Baker\, is on stage of the Grimaldi Forum on Wednesday 19 November 2025 at 7 pm (by invitation from the Palace) and Friday 21 November 2025 at 8 pm. \nOn the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Josephine Baker’s passing\nAs part of Monaco’s National Day celebrations\nOrchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo \nPrecisely 100 years ago\, in September 1925\, a 19-year old dancer and singer arrived at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris for the show that would make jazz popular in Europe and its protagonist a female icon: Josephine Baker. Fifty years later\, she had long become a French citizen\, highly respected for her work in the resistance and the Forces françaises libres during the Second World War\, a fashion icon and fighter for human rights. She managed to realise her utopian dream of creating a family of twelve children\, adopted from different countries and social circumstances\, even though this brought her financial ruin. A show in Paris celebrating her 50 years on stage in April 1975 was attended by her close friend\, Princess Grace of Monaco\, a few days before Josephine Baker died\, the Princess at her side. Josephine spent her last years in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin and regularly appeared on stage in Monaco\, where many places still pay her tribute. Furthermore\, although she made her symbolic entrance into the French Pantheon in 2021\, her earthly remains still rest in Monaco. Opening on Monaco’s National Day\, this is a new show commissioned by the Opéra de Monte-Carlo\, which\, 50 years after her demise\, celebrates Josephine Baker through her unforgettable songs. \nConductor | Yvan Cassar\nLibretto | Nicolas Engel\nDirector | Davide Livermore\nSets | Giò Forma\nCostumes | Gianluca Falaschi\nLighting design | Antonio Castro\nVideos | D-Wok\nChoreography | Erika Rombaldoni
