SUMMARY:Lecture: "Paris\, Monaco\, Auschwitz – The Tragic Fate of René Blum (1878–1942)\, Director of the Monte-Carlo Theatre and Ballets and Brother of Léon Blum"
DESCRIPTION:Lecture: “Paris\, Monaco\, Auschwitz – The Tragic Fate of René Blum (1878–1942)\, Director of the Monte-Carlo Theatre and Ballets and Brother of Léon Blum”\, by Pascal Ory\, of the Académie Française will be held on November 3\, 2026 at 6.30 in Caroline Media Library. \nIn his lecture titled “Paris\, Monaco\, Auschwitz: The Tragic Destiny of René Blum\,” Pascal Ory examines a significant figure from the intellectual and artistic world of the early twentieth century. \nHe is presenting this lecture at the Médiathèque Caroline as part of the centenary celebrations for the Alliance Française de Monaco\, organized by the association. \nRené Blum (1878–1942\, Auschwitz)—a journalist\, art critic\, and artistic director—was the brother of the statesman Léon Blum. Having become a theater and opera director\, he co-founded the Ballets Russes de Monte-Carlo at the Monte-Carlo Opera\, alongside Colonel de Basil. \nOn December 12\, 1941\, he was arrested at his home in Paris during the “roundup of notables” (“rafle des notables”)\, which targeted 743 French Jews. The following day\, he was sent to the Royallieu-Compiègne camp\, subsequently interned at the Pithiviers camp\, and later moved to Drancy—from where he was deported to Auschwitz on September 23\, 1942. \nPascal Ory is a French historian (affiliated with Panthéon-Sorbonne\, EHESS\, and Sciences Po Paris) and a specialist in cultural history; he was elected to the Académie française in 2021. \nHe is the author of numerous works on cultural history\, the interwar period\, the Second World War\, and antisemitism.

SUMMARY:Philosophy for young people: "Who is Dad?" – facilitated by Alicia Polzella Gauduel
DESCRIPTION:Philosophy for young people: “Who is Dad?” – facilitated by Alicia Polzella Gauduel will be held on November 4\, 2026 at 2.30 pm in Mediatheque Caroline. \nIn this workshop\, children will reflect together on the question: “Who is a dad?” \nDrawing on their own experiences\, ideas\, and questions\, they will explore what defines a father—covering themes such as love\, responsibility\, presence and absence\, as well as the roles and stereotypes often associated with the paternal figure. \nIt is a philosophical exploration\, revealing how a seemingly simple question can spark profound reflection on the bonds that connect people and the nature of the relationship between a child and a dad.

SUMMARY:Lecture – Pierre Leguillon
DESCRIPTION:Lecture by Pierre Leguillon “Artists’ Homes: The Collection as a Tool”\, organized in partnership with the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco\, will be held on Thursday\, November 5\, 6.30 pm at Bosio Pavilion\, Garden Room. \nPierre Leguillon (born 1969) is a French artist based in Brussels. His multifaceted\, performative practice centers on the production and reproduction of a wide variety of images\, arranged within installations specifically designed for the spaces that house them. For over thirty years\, he has amassed a vast collection of images and objects—without regard for period or genre—housed within his “Musée des Erreurs” (Museum of Errors)\, founded in Brussels in 2013. In doing so\, he embraces the role of an artist-collector. In conjunction with the exhibition “Victor Brauner: The Magical Adventure”—which features works by the Romanian artist\, all drawn from a private collection in Monaco—ten non-Western objects once collected by Victor Brauner are also on display. It is in this context that Pierre Leguillon has been invited to present a range of artists’ collections\, exploring how these artists stage their objects within their own domestic interiors—to the point where the collections merge with their own artworks\, potentially forming a “Gesamtkunstwerk”\, or “total work of art.” Pierre Leguillon will discuss his own “apartment-museum\,” as well as the collections of architects Sir John Soane and Carlo Mollino\, and artists such as Ana Jotta\, Robert Therrien\, David Ireland\, and Carol Rama\, among others. \nPortrait:\nMagdalena Suarez Frimkess\, ceramic tile\, n.d.\, collection of the Musée des Erreurs\, Brussels (gift of Lesley Vance and Ricky Swallow). \nFree admission; you can register by email public@nmnm.mc

SUMMARY:Thursday Live Sessions - Jimmy Gnecco - Ours
DESCRIPTION:Thursday Live Sessions continue with the concert of Jimmy Gnecco – Ours on November 5\, 2026 from 6:30 p.m. apéromix – 8:30 p.m. live performance in Espace Indigo – Grimaldi Forum Monaco. \nA powerful voice and a rare emotional intensity\, effortlessly shifting from alternative rock to dark pop\, with cinematic flourishes. \nA unique figure on the American music scene\, Jimmy Gnecco is the voice and soul of the band OURS\, a group that achieved cult status upon the release of their debut album *Distorted Lullabies*\, now regarded as a classic. \nSince that album\, Jimmy Gnecco has\, alongside OURS\, ceaselessly developed an instantly recognisable sound\, across albums that are nonetheless very different (‘Precious’ in 2002\, ‘Mercy’ in 2008\, ‘Ballet The Boxer’ in 2013\, ‘New Age Heroine’ in 2024\, ‘Rocket’s Red Glare’ in 2025): music distinguished by its demanding composition and rare emotional intensity\, moving effortlessly from alternative rock to dark pop\, with cinematic flourishes. \nAlongside this OURS project\, Jimmy Gnecco released a deeply personal solo album in 2010\, *The Heart*\, in which he laid himself bare with a poignant modesty. \nHaving moved away from the major labels of his early days\, he now crafts his albums entirely on his own\, handling the recording\, mixing\, production and mastering\, whilst playing the vast majority of the instruments featured. He thus embraces a DIY approach that prioritises authenticity\, emotion and natural vocals (without artifice or auto-tune). \nOver the years\, Jimmy Gnecco has collaborated in the studio or shared the stage with many big names in music\, whether renowned producers (Rick Rubin\, Steve Lillywhite\, Ethan Johns\, Tim Palmer\, …) or established artists (Humanist\, Robert De Leo and Stone Temple Pilots\, A-Ha\, Slash and Velvet Revolver\, …). His talent has often been praised by his peers\, including the late Chester Bennington\, who named him one of the three greatest male singers of all time (alongside Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley)\, and Lana Del Rey\, who went so far as to write a song named after him. \nWhether performing with his band OURS or as a solo artist\, Jimmy Gnecco’s live performances always leave a lasting impression on his audience\, who are captivated by his intense and passionate concerts. He doesn’t simply play songs; he shares moments of truth. Each concert thus becomes a space for connection\, where his voice and music serve as a direct link between the artist and his audience. \nFree admission \nBook a table on +377 9999 3000.

SUMMARY:Recital of Jonathan Tetelman
DESCRIPTION:Recital of Jonathan Tetelman will be held on 7 November 2026 at 7 pm in the Monte-Carlo Opera. \nThe voice of Jonathan Tetelman has been described by the prestigious German daily “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” as possessing “an intense and irresistible euphony—firmly anchored in a warm lower register\, full-bodied and rich\, yet remaining admirably elegant and supple.” \nBorn in Chile in 1988\, Jonathan Tetelman was adopted as an infant and raised in the United States\, in New Jersey. He began his vocal training as a baritone at the Manhattan School of Music\, before transitioning to the tenor range at the Mannes School of Music. This vocal and artistic evolution places him in an impressive lineage of legendary predecessors—such as Ramón Vinay\, Carlo Bergonzi\, James King\, and Plácido Domingo—with whom he also shares a captivating temperament and a charismatic stage presence. \nEverything suggests that he is destined for a long and brilliant career as a “spinto” tenor. Indeed\, in the mere decade since his debut in Puccini’s “La bohème” at the Tanglewood Festival in 2018—followed by his first European appearances in the same role—Jonathan Tetelman has established himself as the go-to tenor for portraying the passionate young lovers found in the works of Puccini\, Verdi\, and the composers of the “verismo” tradition. \nTénor | Jonathan Tetelman\nPiano | James Vaughan

SUMMARY:Princess Grace Theatre: The Bourgeois Gentleman (Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme)
DESCRIPTION:Princess Grace Theatre presents The Bourgeois Gentleman (Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme) on Wednesday\, November 11th at 8:00 pm in the Grimaldi Forum Monaco. \nCreated in 1670 for the court of Louis XIV\, this comédie-ballet blends theater\, music\, and dance. \nBeneath the appearance of a baroque and musical farce\, The Bourgeois Gentleman (Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme) portrays the illusions of a wealthy bourgeois fascinated by the nobility. In an attempt to enter this idealized world\, he surrounds himself with masters of various disciplines—dance\, music\, fencing\, and philosophy—becoming the prey of flatterers and impostors. \nIn a whirlwind of misunderstandings\, arranged marriages\, and sketch-like scenes of Eastern inspiration\, the play humorously questions the boundaries between social classes\, the power of appearances\, and the ridicule of social climbing.

SUMMARY:"Porgy and Bess" Opera
DESCRIPTION:Opera in three acts “Porgy and Bess” will be on stage of Salle des Princes – Grimaldi Forum Monaco on Sunday 15 November 2026 at 3 pm\, Thursday 19 November 2026at 7 pm (by invitation from the Palace) and Saturday 21 November 2026 at 8 pm. \nWith Choir of the Cape Town Opera\nOrchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo \nMusic by George Gershwin (1898-1937)\nLibretto by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin\, based on the play by DuBose Heyward and Dorothy Heyward\nPremiere: Boston\, Colonial Theatre\, 30 september 1935 \nNew production \nAs part of Monaco’s National Day celebrations \nPorgy and Bess mirrors the French operas by Ravel and Debussy\, which Cecilia Bartoli has been programming at the Opéra since the beginning of her tenure. George Gershwin’s admiration for the former\, for instance\, is clearly audible in his piano concertos\, whereas Ravel was famously impressed by Gershwin‘s compositions\, and beyond that excited about American popular music\, brought to France in the 1920s by the likes of Josephine Baker. \nSonglike numbers such as “Summertime”\, jazzy rhythms\, traditional Black American tunes and even street cries\, which Gershwin heard during a study period in Charleston\, determine his only opera’s sound. But its descriptiveness\, the imaginative orchestration\, the powerful choruses and dramatic solo parts are direct descendents of Europe’s impressionist and verismo movements. \nThe story itself is typical verismo and shows us ordinary people – the inhabitants of a South Carolina fishing town – with their ups and downs\, their small joys and far greater pains. At the centre stands an impossible love between the crippled beggar Porgy and the beautiful Bess\, whose longing for a better life makes her an easy victim of a former boyfriend‘s violence\, and of “happy dust”\, pressed upon her by a devilish drugdealer. \nConductor | Lee Reynolds\nDirector | Jean-Louis Grinda\nSets | Rudy Sabounghi\nCostumes | Stéphanie Putegnat\nLighting design | Laurent Castaingt\nChoreography | Caroline Roëlands\nCostumes | Julien Soulier\nChoirmaster | ND\nPorgy | Michael Sumuel\nBess | Brittany Olivia Logan\nCrown | Bongani Kubheka\nSerena | Leah Hawkins\nClara | Brandie Sutton\nMaria | Adriana Bignagni Lesca\nJake | Donovan Singletary\nSportin’Life | Chauncey Packer \nTickets from 40€

SUMMARY:Art and Sport: the beauty of the gesture
DESCRIPTION:Lecture “Art and Sport: the beauty of the gesture” with Serge Legat\, Art historian\, professor at the Institut d’Études supérieures des Arts (IESA) in Paris will be held on Monday\, November 16\, 2026 at 6:30 pm. \nArt and sport may seem to belong to two different worlds\, yet they share a common pursuit: the exploration of movement\, emotion\, and the act of transcending one’s own limits. Through painting\, sculpture\, photography\, and performance\, artists have frequently sought to capture the gestures of sport and the energy of the human body. In both the artistic and athletic realms\, technical mastery goes hand in hand with creativity\, sensitivity\, and the pursuit of excellence. \nThe body thus becomes a language\, capable of conveying strength\, grace\, tension\, or freedom. This intersection of art and sport invites us—intuitively—to reflect on our relationship with our own bodies and with the concept of performance. Beneath every athletic feat lies an aesthetic and human dimension. From the athletes of antiquity to the soccer players depicted by Nicolas de Staël\, sport has served as an enduring source of artistic inspiration. \nBridging discipline and imagination\, effort and beauty\, art and sport converge in a shared endeavor: to express what words alone are not always enough to convey. \nFull price €12\nStudents €5\nPayment by cash or check – credit/debit cards not accepted \nOn-site rentals available from 5:00 pm

SUMMARY:Monaco’s National Day or Sovereign Prince’s Day
DESCRIPTION:The Monegasque National Day\, also known as the Sovereign Prince’s Day or ‘La Fête du Prince’ in French\, one of the most important holidays in the Principality\, traditionally takes place on November 19\, this year it falls on Wednesday. It is an official day off in the Principality. \n“The Sovereign’s Day” is traditionally held on the day of the reigning Prince’s patron saint. Rainier III departed from this custom by choosing the day of his enthronement\, 19 November\, which also happens to be the celebration of Rainier d’Arezzo. In memory of his father\, Prince Albert II kept the same date\, thus fixing the date of Monaco’s National Festival on 19 November. \nA few weeks before the celebration\, streets\, government institutions\, offices and shops are decorated with red and white state symbols\, and the Marie de Monaco encourages patriotic citizens and residents to hang national colors from their windows and balconies to demonstrate loyalty to the ruling Prince and the state. \nOn the evening of the 18th\, spectacular fireworks light up Port Hercule\, marking a moment of sharing and unity for Monegasques and visitors alike. \nOn the 19th\, celebrations begin with Mass at Monaco Cathedral\, attended by Prince Albert II and the Princely Family\, followed by a military parade on the Place du Palais. Throughout the day\, the city is decked out in red and white\, the national colors\, and the streets come alive with popular festivities. \nThe funfair in Port Hercule will also be open on the National day.

SUMMARY:Opera de Monte-Carlo: Carmen
DESCRIPTION:Opera de Monte-Carlo: Carmen by Georges Bizet will be on stage of Salle des Princes – Grimaldi Forum Monaco on Friday 20 November 2026 – at 7.30 pm. \nWith Choir of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo\nRainier III Academy Children’s Choir\nOrchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo \nOpera in four acts\nMusic by Georges Bizet (1838-1875)\nLibretto by Henri Meilhac and Ludovic Halévy based on Prosper Mérimée’s short story\nPremiere: Paris\, Opéra-Comique\, hall Favart\, 3 March 1875 \nIt is hard to understand why Carmen was a failure when first performed at the Opéra Comique in 1875. The reason must have been its story – an impossible love between Don José\, an honourable but in many ways naive soldier\, and Carmen\, a free-spirited gypsy girl\, who arouses sympathy because of her blunt honesty and independency from social conventions\, which she defends to the death. \nMoreover\, Georges Bizet’s music contains a great number of song- and dancelike pieces which are based on Spanish folklore\, rather than the traditional couplets and arias that audiences expected at the time. \nAt least we can forgive them for their initial disapproval because Carmen was performed a hundred times more in Paris during the next ten years and has remained popular ever since. \nConductor | Marc Leroy-Calatayud\nMise en espace | Vanessa d’Ayral de Sérignac\nChoirmaster | Stefano Visconti\nDon José | Benjamin Bernheim\nEscamillo | Erwin Schrott\nZuniga | Andrew Moore\nMoralès | Anas Seguin\nCarmen | Marina Viotti\nMicaëla | Sandra Hamaoui\nFrasquita | Marie Lombard\nMercédès | Axelle Saint-Cirel\nLe Dancaïre | Pierre Doyen\nLe Remendado | Loic Felix

SUMMARY:Opera de Monte-Carlo - Cape Town Heritage Horizons
DESCRIPTION:Opera de Monte-Carlo – Cape Town Heritage Horizons will be on stage of Salle des Princes of the Grimaldi Forum Monaco on Sunday 22 November 2026 at 3 pm. \nCape Town Opera\, which celebrated its 25th birthday in 2024\, is one of the largest full-time performing arts institutions in South Africa. The company offers a diversity of productions\, from mainstage operas to site-specific performances\, touring productions\, musicals\, and concerts. It caters to audiences of all ages and commits to creating jobs for the entire theatre industry. \nCape Town Opera provides support and development opportunities through initiatives like the National Schools Tour\, the Foundation Studio for high-school learners and the Judith Neilson Young Artist Programme for postgraduate singers\, pianists\, and conductors. \nThe Cape Town Opera Chorus is one of the most compelling and varied vocal ensembles in the world and winner of “Chorus of the Year” at the 2013 International Opera Awards. This concert brings to us choral works that emanate directly from South Africa’s musical and cultural landscape. Rooted in traditional isiZulu and isiXhosa songs\, they reflect themes of faith\, memory\, grief\, and resilience. Placed alongside works such as Baba Yetu\, the programme highlights South Africa’s choral tradition as a living\, communal practice — one that carries history\, language\, and shared experience\, while continuing to evolve in contemporary performance. \nFlat rate of 75€
