DESCRIPTION:Following the first part\, entitled Démarche d’un poète (Approach of a poet\, act) with reference to Jean Cocteau’s key work\, the second part (Act II) completes the introduction of this approach by integrating Jean Cocteau’s passionate links with stage. \nJean Cocteau\, always in avant-gardes\, is looking for a modern and popular theater mixing tragedy\, comedy\, vaudeville and boulevard. He thus participates actively in the operation of destruction of the classical and academic heritage following the First World War\, by a frenzied mixture of genres\, including the noble genres (ballet\, theater) and popular\, including jazz\, cinema\, the circus and the music hall\, for which he has a sincere and well-informed taste. \nThis new course gives way to the crazy and sparkling comedy with The Parade and The Married of the Eiffel Tower\, but also tragedy\, dance and multiple artistic collaborations.

SUMMARY:Exhibition of Alfredo Volpi\, The poetics of color
DESCRIPTION:The NMNM presents the very first retrospective in a public institution outside Brazil of Alfredo Volpi: a major Brazilian artist born in Lucca (Italy) in 1896 and who moved to São Paulo’s Cambuci Italian neighborhood in 1898. Alfredo Volpi died in 1988 in São Paulo. \nThe aim of the exhibition is to retrace Volpi’s career\, starting from his early oil paintings in the ’40s – mostly landscapes and ‘cityscapes’ – to the works of the ’50s\, ’60s and ’70s\, in which the same subjects are metamorphosed into colorful geometric compositions\, oneiric archetypes of the façades of buildings and festive banners\, and a humble and poetic ‘algorithm’ that gives Volpi the chance to make infinite color variations on the same subject. \n\nThe exhibition features more than 70 works retracing the history of this independent and self-taught painter\, whose fascination for the Italian early Renaissance\, for Matisse\, Morandi and the sphere of popular culture led him to win the Best National Prize at the 2nd São Paolo Biennale with ‘Di Cavalcanti’\, and intrigued the celebrated English critic Herbert Read\, who described him as an artist “… aware of the general movement\, but who created something contemporary with an indigenous theme: the shapes and colors of Brazilian modern architecture.”\n\nVolpi is probably the most-loved Brazilian artist of the 20th century\, but has remained little known outside of Latin America until now.

Founded in 1946\, the invitation-only festival is held annually (usually in May) at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès. The festival will be celebrating its 71th year.

SUMMARY:2018 Monegasque Language Competition
DESCRIPTION:The Monegasque Language Competition is fast approaching with a major novelty for this 2018 edition\, a change of venue. Indeed\, it is within the Auditorium of the Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monaco and no longer at Espace Léo Ferré that students will sit for the written tests. Appointment is given on Tuesday\, May 8 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am for students of 3rd\, 2nd\, 1st and Terminale and 2 pm to 5 pm for students of 4th grade. \nFor classes 7\, 6 and 5\, written tests are scheduled directly in primary schools and colleges. In total\, 1 231 students will participate in the competition. \nNext comes the second part of the 2018 Monegasque Language Competition with oral tests. These will take place in the Council Hall of the Monaco City Hall on Friday 1st\, Monday 4th and Tuesday 5th of June from 8.30 am to 4 pm and on Wednesday 6th of June from 8.30am to 12pm. \nThe award ceremony of 2018 Monegasque Language Competition will take place on Monday 18 June in the Cour d’Honneur of the Monaco City Hall.

After the success of his adaptation of the Portrait of Dorian Gray in January 2016 at the Princess Grace Theater\, Thomas Le Douarec – fine connoisseur of the work – returns to Monaco with the original version. \nThrough the magic of a vow\, Dorian Gray retains the grace and beauty of youth. Only his portrait will age. The young dandy then devotes himself to all the experiences\, intoxicated with sensations and searches for secret and refined pleasures. “Follies are the only things we never regret. We must heal the soul by the senses\, heal the senses by the soul. ” \nOscar Wilde wanted to free man by giving him the model of the artist. In a refined language\, the author questions society\, marriage\, morality and art. \nTickets are available at €22-€33.
