DESCRIPTION:Monaco Globe Series 1-8 June 2018: IMOCA 60 \nAt the beginning of June\, a dozen teams are set to stopover in the Principality for the first time to take the start of a double-hander offshore race on a course that embraces some of the most emblematic marks in the western Mediterranean.  \nOn the programme: 1\,400 nautical miles\, four days and three nights of racing. After the start in Monaco\, the fleet races down Corsica’s west coast before being propelled through the Strait of Bonifacio\, towards the Aeolian Islands\, where they tack in front of Stromboli and head for Palermo in Sicily. The fleet then sets course for the Balearic Islands before returning to Monaco. \nThe Monaco event marks the start of the new IMOCA 2018-2020 championship\, renamed the Globe Series\, with a system of points and weightings over a four-year period. The goal for sailors is to rack-up a maximum number of points to qualify for the big offshore races\, with the Vendée Globe as the holy grail.

DESCRIPTION:Whit Monday\, or Pentecost Monday\, is a Christian holiday. It is the day after Pentecost\, also known as Whit Sunday or Whitsunday\, which commemorates the descent of the Holy Ghost upon the disciples of Jesus Christ\, according to the New Testament of the Bible. \nThere are a number of customs associated with Whit Monday. Cheese rolling and throwing competitions are held in some parts of England. In other parts of the country\, Whit walks\, which are parades led by local brass bands\, clergy\, dignitaries and local organizations\, are held. The walks are often concluded by various activities that include competitions\, dancing and food. \nIn the United States some churches organize Whit Monday prayer rallies\, which include prayers and street marches. In France it is a holiday that is respected by many citizens. In 2005 millions of workers stayed at home during Whit Monday\, despite the government’s cancellation of the holiday\, causing a halt in public transport and the closure of many municipal offices. The French government recently reinstated Whit Monday as a public holiday\, while retaining a more flexible Day of Solidarity. \nBackground \nChristian Pentecost commemorates the Holy Spirit’s visit to the apostles who received the “gift of tongues” on the 50th day after Easter.  It also marks the birth of the Christian Church. Although it is not certain when Pentecost was first observed by Christians\, it may have been early as the first century. Pentecost occurs roughly seven weeks after Easter Sunday\, or 50 days after Easter\, including Easter Day. The Easter date depends on the ecclesiastical approximation of the March equinox. Like Pentecost\, Whit Monday is movable because it is determined by the Easter date. \nWhit Monday used to be one of the major annual holidays in Pennsylvania Dutch country in the United States. From around 1835 to just after the Civil War\, Whit Monday was referred to as the “Dutch Fourth of July” in Lancaster\, Pennsylvania\, where people came to eat\, drink and be entertained. Whit Monday was once a public holiday in Ireland and was a bank holiday in the United Kingdom until 1967\, when it was formally replaced by a fixed spring holiday on the last Monday in May in 1971. \nIn some Orthodox churches\, Whit Monday is observed after the date set by the western churches. The artist who receives this award will be allowed to continue to display their work at the Rainier III Auditorium. The Monaco Artists’ Forum is part of the desire of the Prince’s Government to promote visual arts within the Principality\, to highlight the vitality of local artistic creation in the field of visual arts and as a matter of cultural policy\, to integrate and leverage the efforts of all Monegasque artists for the benefit of everyone.

SUMMARY:Monacology Eco-Village
DESCRIPTION:More than 1200 students from the Principality of Monaco are expected to visit the MONACOLOGY ECO-VILLAGE on the port from June 11 to 15. \nDuring these five days\,  students will  learn\, in  entertaining and inspiring ways\, how to support  the National Pact for the Energy Transition\, signed on January 19\, 2018\, by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco. They will also rediscover the related Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations (the theme of the 2017 Monacology Week) through  various workshops and exhibitions\, especially those created by the Monegasque students themselves. \nNow in it’s 14th edition\, Monacology was created in 2004 by Kate and Didier from the restaurant Stars’N’Bars and  environmentalist Olivier Arnoult in order to raise awareness among Monaco’s children about protecting the environment while having fun.   The educational activities  include workshops\, lectures\, film screenings and interactive games developed  by more than thirty organizations representing the government\, the Department of Education\, non-profit associations and the private sector. \nAs every year\, the MONACOLOGY ECOVILLAGE  is “100%  green “: \n– Photovoltaic solar panels energize the village\n– The waste is sorted in  bins provided by Société Monegasque de Assainissement\n– The food offered by the Stars’n’Bars to the participants is local and organic\,\n– Travel is minimized through the use of public transport\n– The cabins\, graciously made available by the Mayor have a lifespan of more than 10 years \nThe  3 ECO-SCHOOLS will host a board game workshop from trays made in school by the students. Each school will highlight a particular theme   : \n\nThe L’Ecole du Condamine will focus on health\nThe L’Ecole du Saint-Charles on energy\nAnd the L’Ecole des Revoires on recycling\n\nPlus\, the high school students of Lycée Albert 1er and FANB will demonstrate how to calculate carbon  footprints. \nWe invite you all to consult the detailed descriptions of all activities during Monacology Week  in the press kit as well as on the website www.monacology.fr
