DESCRIPTION:In June 2018 the New National Museum of Monaco (NMNM) will exhibit a series of works by Tom Wesselmann at Villa Paloma. \nFrom Friday 29 June to Thursday 31 January\, from 10 am to 6 pm Nouveau Musée National – Villa Sauber: Tom Wesselmann exhibition – The Promise of Happiness \nNamed The Promise of Happiness\, the exhibition will revolve around the career of this pop art singer\, highlighting his immense contribution to the taboo subject of sexuality. The exhibition takes its title from Stendhal’s celebrated claim that “Beauty is but the promise of happiness.” \nConcentrating on the artist’s portrayal of women\, which has been known to draw fire for its purported objectification\, this exhibition argues for a much more nuanced understanding of the Wesselmann’s rapport with the female subject. Indeed\, through this survey\, a certain sense of female agency will become apparent\, which in itself is symptomatic of a crucial historical shift from Victorian repression to the abundance associated with postwar American consumerism\, as both are described and quite literally embodied in Wesselmann’s work. Long considered one of the key American Pop artists as well as one of its great formal innovators\, Wesselmann’s specific critical contribution to the movement has been a subject of debate for decades. DESCRIPTION:International musical fireworks competition ‘Art en Ciel’ organised by the Mairie de Monaco on Saturday 4 August at 9.30 pm\, Port Hercule. \nFirst introduced by Monaco’s Town Hall in 1966\, the International Pyromelodic Firework Competition is a must see contest that takes place every summer\, with 2 shows in July and 2 more in August\, lighting up Monaco’s sky at every show. \nEver since its 31st edition\, in 1996\, this pyrotechnical contest has become pyromelodic\, with rhythm and melody going hand in hand during shows. \nThis is an actual annually-prized contest of top-quality pyrotechnic displays\, lasting up to about 20 minutes each. \nThe Jury is made of members from Monaco’s Municipal Council as well as of representatives from the arts and the civilian world. The Jury is presided by the Mayor or by one of his Deputies. The author steps into the shoes of Johann Sebastian Bach. He imagines a diary written by the composer towards the end of his life. His aim is to speak of Bach in a different way. He has more than risen to the challenge\, as the reading of this original composition enables us to get close to the musician\, of course\, but also the son\, the husband\, the father\, the social being\, the walker\, the religious man … in short\, all the facets of this composer\, who remains one of the greatest geniuses in the history of humanity.
