SUMMARY:Exhibition of Shimabuku: The 165-metre Mermaid and Other Stories
DESCRIPTION:From February 19\, 2020 to October 3\, 2021 Nouveau Musée National de Monaco — Villa Paloma will be displaying works of Shimabuku put together in the exhibition called The 165-metre Mermaid and Other Stories. \nIn the style of an epic poem\, the exhibition The 165-metre Mermaid and Other Stories recounts the artist Shimabuku’s adventures around the world\, from his native Japan to the Principality of Monaco via Brazil\, Australia\, and many other countries. \nThe artist’s texts form the storyline for a journey that brings together over 20 installations\, films\, sculptures and photographs created over the last 30 years. \nOn a visit to Fukuoka Shimabuku discovered the legend and relics of a mermaid whose body was 165 metres long and decided to make this story his own and expand it\, buying a long rope also 165 metres long. Taken around the world\, this rope brings him closer to the fish-woman and becomes a vector linking fiction to reality\, past to present and Japan to the different countries where the work is presented. Acquired by the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco in 2018\, the installation I’m travelling with 165-metre Mermaid (1998–ongoing) forms the starting point for the exhibition and is enriched by the presence of artefacts produced in Monaco by different craftspeople invited in turn to make this story into a work of their own. \nShimabuku\, Symbiosis (hyacinth\, black goldfish)\, 1992. C-print on aluminium\, picture 70 x 47\,5 cm; 76 x 54 x 4\,7 cm framed. Edition of 5 © Shimabuku. Photo credit: Marc Domage. Courtesy of the artist and Air de Paris\, Romainville.

SUMMARY:Marginalia. Inside the Comics Arts Collections
DESCRIPTION:Presented at the NMNM-Villa Sauber from April 1 to September 5\, 2021\, the exhibition Marginalia. Inside the Comics Arts Collections is an exploration of comic book art\, a young art born at the same time as film and psychoanalysis\, and which has frequently opted for marginality over convention\, humour over academicism and counter-culture over received ideas. \n\nFollowing Freud’s traumarbeit (dream-work) model\, Marginalia. Inside the Comic Arts Collections invites visitors to discover over 350 works by some of the greatest comic book artists and honours the passion of those who find their work an endless source of fascination. \n\nMarginalia are the small drawings located in the margins of Medieval manuscripts. Often secular\, sometimes droll\, always fascinating\, they form a dialogue with the texts that they illuminate\, explain or criticise and can be seen as the origins of comic books\, a combination of drawing and writing which blossomed in the 20th century.\n\nMarginalia. Inside the Comic Arts Collections  will be accompanied by a fun and lavish publication (co-published by the NMNM and Glénat) which intends to square the enjoyment of reading comics with the demands of an appropriate scientific approach through contributions from Jean-Luc Fromental\, Thierry Groensteen\, Didier Pasamonik and Numa Sadoul.\n\nSource: www.nmnm.mc

DESCRIPTION:“Summer at Port Hercule” (carousel\, crazy karting\, basketball playgrounds\, bouncy castle\, and more) from Wednesday 14 July to Sunday 22 August 2021\, in Port Hercule. \n\n\n\nWith the traditional and very popular carousel\, the crazy kart (small electric karts that can turn on themselves) and two basketball playgrounds (an inflatable structure for children and a 3×3 field for adults)\, there is no doubt that “Summer at Port Hercule” on Quai Albert Ier will satisfy both Monegasques and residents as well as tourists. \n\nIn addition\, every Wednesday and Saturday (excluding fireworks evenings on July 31 and August 7)\, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.\, the Town Hall offers an introduction class to radio-controlled vehicles in partnership with the company MC Clic. It’s available from the age of 5\, sessions of 15 minutes maximum (depending on attendance)\, 2 participants per session. The vehicles are loaned by MC Clic. \n\nThe installation of shaded benches and the presence of plants\, in particular succulents\, allow a cool stopover in the Port. \n\nFinally\, as part of a partnership with the Grimaldi Forum\, a parallel is drawn with the exhibition Alberto Giacometti – A retrospective\, the marvelous reality with the installation of explanatory panels.

DESCRIPTION:Sporting Summer Festival 2021: concert with Paolo Conte on Friday 6 August 2021\, at 8:30 pm\, in Salle Garnier de l’Opéra de Monte-Carlo. \nPaolo Conte was not always a singer\, pianist or composer. SUMMARY:Saint Roman Feast Day
DESCRIPTION:St. Roman is one of Monaco’s Saint Patrons. The high point of the celebrations takes place on August 9th\, the actual Feast Day of St. Roman\, around the Altar that is consecrated to the Saint in Monaco’s Cathedral. \nAfter Saint Dévote\, Saint Roman is the most popular and most venerated saint in the Principality. \nThe veneration by the Monégasques of this Roman legionary\, who suffered martyrdom on 9th August 258 in the reign of the Emperor Valerian\, goes back to the sixteenth century when a relic of Saint Roman was entrusted to the Terrazzani family who had a chapel built in which to lay it. \nFor several centuries\, the Feast of Saint Roman took place at the hamlet of les Moulins (“the Mills”) near to the old chapel. \nAround 1880\, the festivities moved to Monaco-Ville. Today\, with the support of the Committee of the Feasts of Saint Roman\, we still dance and enjoy cool drinks in the month of August under the foliage of the hundred-year-old trees of the Saint Martin gardens.

DESCRIPTION:Sporting Summer Festival 2021: concert with Valery Meladze – Via Gra – Albina Dzhanabaewa on Tuesday 10 August 2021\, at 10:30 pm\, in Le Sporting Monte-Carlo – Salle des Etoiles. \nHe is one of the most recognizable voices of his time. Valery Meladze is a pop and contemporary music singer from Russia and Georgia. His concerts are always sold-out and the singer embarks his fans on a musical journey through time with his greatest hits. \nIn just a few short years\, Via Gra has grown into a Russian pop music group that holds sway in an industry where competition is fierce. The Ukrainian group formed in Kiev in 2000 is made up of Alyona Vinnitskaya\, Vera Brezhneva and Anna Sedokova. Natives of Ukraine\, the three bombshells make themselves known through singles\, compilations and videos. After the solo careers of the three singers\, the group will reform for an evening at the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival. \nAs for Albina Dzhanabaeva\, she is omnipresent! Actress\, host\, singer; she is one of the most famous Russian icons. After starting her career with Valery Meladze as a chorister\, she then went solo where she was very successful in Ukraine and Russia.

SUMMARY:Sporting Summer Festival 2021: The Gipsy Kings feat. Nicolas Reyes
DESCRIPTION:Sporting Summer Festival 2021: concert with The Gipsy Kings feat. Nicolas Reyes on Friday 13 August 2021\, at 10:30 pm\, in Le Sporting Monte-Carlo – Salle des Etoiles. \nImmortal stars: sons\, nephews\, brothers\, cousins… The Gipsy Kings drew their strength from two gypsy families whose family trees are themselves very extensive. On one hand\, the Reyes family\, originally from Arles\, with Nicolas\, singer and figurehead of the historic Gipsy Kings canal\, not to mention his brothers Patchaï\, Canut\, Pablo and André; on the other hand\, the Baliardo family\, rooted in Montpellier\, with Tonino\, the solo guitarist\, and his brothers Diego and Paco. This family was also Manitas de Plata’s\, whose real name is Ricardo Baliardo. \nThe Gipsy Kings released two records: Bamboléo and Djobi\, Djoba. These albums are a huge success in France and around the world\, and the beginning of a long series. They sing in Spanish a mixture of flamenco\, pop and various light songs like Catalan rumba. \nEvery summer\, Monaco becomes the place to be with the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival. Organized under the aegis of the Casino de Monte-Carlo\, it perfectly illustrates the ambition of this legendary place: to offer entertainment and thrills to visitors from all over the world for unforgettable Monte-Carlo-style moments. SUMMARY:Sporting Summer Festival 2021: The Sister Sledge concert
DESCRIPTION:Sporting Summer Festival 2021: concert with The Sister Sledge on Saturday 14 August 2021\, at 8:30 pm\, in Le Sporting Monte-Carlo – Salle des Etoiles. \nFormed in 1971\, the group initially consisted of four sisters aged 12 to 17: Deborah\, Joan\, Kim and Kathy. Their career really took off two years later with the song “Mama Never Told Me”. It became a top 20 hit in the UK. Nevertheless\, the group went through a period of stagnation and\, just as the four sisters were about to call it a day\, their record company connected them with producers Bernard Edwards and Nile Rodgers. Immediately\, the pairing with Chic bore fruit and the track “Le Freak” reached the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. \nHowever\, their biggest hit was “We Are Family” released in 1979\, now considered a standard from the “Uptown Funk” era. The album was certified platinum in the United States\, gold in England and remains a classic in the Disco repertoire. However\, their numerous triumphs were not enough to prevent Kathy from leaving the group in 1989. Following Joan’s death in 2017\, Kim and Deborah were the only remaining members. \nEvery summer\, Monaco becomes the place to be with the Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival.
