DESCRIPTION:On January 10 and 11\, 2026\, the Espace Saint-Antoine will host the prestigious International Fencing Tournament. Held under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II\, the event has established itself as a key fixture on the European circuit. \nAn exceptional lineup across 17 pistes. Nearly 200 athletes are expected to compete in the individual events. The level of competition promises to be particularly high among the women\, with over 130 fencers\, including the French elite competing in the National Senior Women’s event. The tournament is open to senior épée fencers as well as juniors competing in higher age categories\, offering a direct confrontation between experienced athletes and up-and-coming international talent. \nThe highlight: the Prince’s Cup. The public can attend the final rounds on Sunday\, January 11\, starting at 4:00 p.m. in the multi-sports hall. The highlight of the weekend will be the presentation of the prestigious Prince Albert II Cup\, awarded to the winners of this exceptional competition.

Regardless of the religion\, they all include initiations\, prayers\, offerings\, sacrifices\, readings of sacred texts\, celebrations\, festivals\, songs and hymns\, and places for the gathering of the faithful. What distinguishes one religion from another\, and what makes the living heart of each\, is the form and content of salvation which\, in relation to the Absolute\, to Transcendence\, to God\, to the Prophet\, to the Messiah\, to the son of God\, is offered to men\, namely the liberation or deliverance from the evil which in some way is inherent in the human condition\, due to original sin\, the grip of a world deemed evil\, the fatality of cyclical time and the cycle of rebirths\, the sufferings of exile\, both physical and metaphysical\, of a “covering of sins” which did not occur\, or even of the very imperfection of humanity\, redeemed by divine love and forgiveness. Each religion defines salvation in its own way\, whether individual or collective\, and precisely outlines the paths that lead to it: through adherence to the cosmic order governed by the gods (ancient religions or Mesopotamian cosmogonies)\, liberation from cyclical time (wisdom traditions or Far Eastern religions)\, or participation in divine life (monotheistic religions). But in everyday language\, the very terms salvation and redemption retain a certain ambiguity. This is because a semantic similarity links the greeting one gives to the salvation bestowed by the savior\, or because *salus*—Latin for health\, the preservation of life—combines salvation as deliverance and salvation as fulfillment. As for the notion of redemption\, it retains a “material” origin which weighs upon it: redemption – redemptio: from re- (back\, again) and emere (to buy\, to acquire) – referred in Antiquity to the price that one had to pay to free a slave or redeem a prisoner\, to the acquisition\, by means of money\, of a public office\, to the fine that one paid to replace a corporal punishment\, to the redemption by a relative of a family property that had been sold\, or even to the duty to avenge the life or honor offended of a member of one’s family. Thus\, a great distance appears between these “matters of money” and pure love\, kindness\, mercy\, sacrifice\, and forgiveness\, through which God accomplishes the redemption of original sin (Catholicism)\, the “covering of faults\,” which gives the repentant person the possibility of setting out again on the straight path (Judaism)\, or\, for the faithful who know how to worship Him sincerely and exclusively and submit to His will\, spiritual preservation from sin and eternal beatitude (Islam). In his time (the 12th century)\, Maimonides had already condemned the self-serving nature of the hope of redemption\, seeing it as a calculation of “profit return” that had nothing to do with divine service out of pure love for God (in fact\, Moses never called himself a redeemer). If redemption\, in fact\, contains a profound and authentic call for regained freedom\, restored dignity\, returned peace\, the alleviation of suffering or the feeling of guilt that gnaws at us\, the possibility of a “new beginning”\, if not the repair of the world\, however partial it may be\, it cannot be limited to waiting for a God to save us. We might then be tempted to think of other saving forces\, a miscellany of credulity and substitutes for religion\, all of which are illusory and distort our vision: magic\, spiritualism\, superstition\, conspiracy theories\, the “providential man”… But\, in a secularized world\, threatened\, brought down by the tyranny of pure force\, destined for an uncertain future\, damaged by the blind dynamics of profit\, eaten away by nihilism\, would it not be possible to expect salvation from ourselves\, not from God or some worldly savior\, but from women and men of goodwill\, bold and clear-sighted enough to want\, despite everything\, to take care of the world and society? But how can we rekindle the will when reason\, or myth\, to ignite it\, points to an Archimedean point—the fulcrum for lifting the Earth—a future perpetually postponed\, a Philadelphia forever to come\, an end of times that never arrives? How can we ensure that redemption and salvation are not “what we always wait for”? How (and should we) separate them from their eschatological dimension? Walter Benjamin associated the notion of “messianic redemption” (Erlösung) with that of “remembering” (Eingedenken). He thereby invited us to change our perspective\, to turn it around\, to conceive of redemption as the remembrance/commemoration of the vanquished of the past\, the forgotten\, the erased\, the voiceless\, to whom a secret pact binds us\, or should bind us\, making it our duty to redress the injustices and sufferings suffered by the past. \nRobert Maggiori

As the opening round of the 2026 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC)\, this legendary road event is poised to attract high-caliber teams and elite drivers from across the globe. \nReconnaissance runs will be conducted from Sunday\, January 18 through Tuesday\, January 20. Participating crews will then engage in a modified shakedown session on January 21 at 14:01. Measuring 4.80 km\, the trial route – first introduced in 2017 and extended for this edition – now integrates the Rabou’s road in Gap\, host city from 2014 to 2021 and again from 2024. \nThe official start of the 94th Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo is set for Thursday\, January 22 at 14:30 from the podium ramp installed on Quai Albert 1er in Monaco. This initial leg features three special stages\, totaling 61.58 kilometers. Held in the departments of Alpes-Maritimes and Alpes-de-Haute-Provence\, the stages « Toudon / Saint-Antonin » (SS 1 – 22\,90 km – 16h05)\, « Esclangon / Seyne-les-Alpes » (SS 2 – 23\,48 km – 18h38) and « Vaumeilh / Claret » (SS 3 – 15\,20 km – 20h35) promise the potential for major surprises right from the start. \nTwo departments\, Drôme and Hautes-Alpes\, will host the second day of rallying\, with a total of 129.38 kilometers against the clock. This leg comprises a three-stage loop repeated twice\, including « Laborel / Chauvac-Laux-Montaux » (SS 4/7 – 17\,84 km – 08h54/15h16)\, « Saint-Nazaire-le-Désert / La Motte-Chalancon » (SS 5/8 – 29\,00 km – 10h22/16h44) and « La Bâtie-des-Fonts / Aspremont » (SS 6/9 – 17\,85 km – 11h40/18h05). This second leg\, packed with technical challenges\, is simply the longest of the entire rally. \nWhile shorter in length\, Saturday’s mostly Alpes-de-Haute-Provence-based stage remains equally demanding. It features a total of 78.22 kilometers of timed sections\, including the band-new « La Bréole / Bellaffaire » via the Garcinets pass (SS 10/12 – 30\,10 km – 08h31/12h31)\, run twice\, and a daytime reprise of « Vaumeilh / Claret » from Thursday evening (SS 11 – 15\,20 km – 09h45). In contrast to the 2025 edition\, this year the return to Monaco happens Saturday afternoon and wraps up with a super special stage (SS 13 – 2\,82 km – 18h35)\, set on the lower section of the iconic Monaco Circuit\, the first since 2008. \nRallye Automobile Monte-Carlo will culminate with a thrilling final showdown across two legendary mountain stages\, each repeated twice and totaling 71.62 kilometers. She is the eldest child of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly. \nPrincess Caroline received her French Baccalaureat degree in 1974 with honours and continued her studies at the Sorbonne in Paris where she received a diploma in Philosophy and minors in Psychology and Biology. \nAt the request of her father\, Princess Caroline took on a number of high-profile roles\, including becoming the President of the Princess Grace Foundation\, the Garden Club of Monaco\, the Springtime Arts of Monte-Carlo and the Red Cross. During a 1985 press conference in Paris\, Princess Caroline officially announced the creation of the Ballet of Monte-Carlo\, realizing her mother’s dream. \nWhen Princess Caroline was 21\, she married French banker Philippe Junot. Over 600 guests\, including Grace Kelly’s friends Gregory Peck and Frank Sinatra\, attended the grand wedding ceremony. The couple divorced two years later and later the Catholic Church annulled the marriage.  \nIn 1983\, Princess Caroline walked down the aisle once again when she married Stefano Casiraghi. Caroline and Stefano had three children; Andrea (1984)\, Charlotte (1986) and Pierre (1987).  \nAt the age of 33\, Caroline suddenly became a widow when Stefano Casiraghi was tragically killed during a boat race.  \nNine years later\, in a quiet civil ceremony on her 42nd birthday\, Caroline became the Princess of Hanover when she married Prince Ernst August of Hanover. In 1999\, Princess Caroline gave birth to her fourth child\, Princess Alexandra of Hanover. \nWhen Princess Grace died in 1982\, Princess Caroline served as the de facto first lady of Monaco. During an interview just one year after his wife’s death\, Prince Rainier said that Princess Caroline stepped into her mother’s shoes with the same spirit as her mother. \nThroughout the years\, Princess Caroline has always managed to turn heads with her impeccable style.
