Prince Albert visits Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau

On Monday 7 May, Prince Albert arrived in Ottawa, Canada’s capital, and was received by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the first time at Parliament House. The two leaders discussed the Paris Agreement and threats related to climate change, particularly in the Arctic and Antarctic, as well as the preservation of the oceans. The Sovereign Prince and his delegation then had a luncheon hosted by Dominic LeBlanc, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. At the end of the luncheon, Prince Albert visited the ‘Death in the Ice: The Mystery of the Franklin Expedition’ exhibition at the Canadian Museum of History.  Prince Albert was then received by George J. Furey, Speaker of the Senate, and Geoff Regan, Speaker of the Canadian House of Commons. In the evening, Governor General Julie Payette hosted a dinner for the Monegasque delegation to celebrate 10 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Prince Albert continues Canadian visit in Halifax

On Tuesday 8 May, Prince Albert II and his delegation visited Halifax, capital of Nova Scotia, where they were welcomed by Dr. Richard Florizone and Dr. Alice Aiken, President and Vice President of Dalhousie University. The delegation visited the Ocean Frontier Institute where Prince Albert II spoke at a public debate entitled ‘A sea of ​​opportunity’. The Sovereign Prince also took part in a question and answer session with students from the institute about economic, social and environmental issues relating to the oceans and the preservation of marine biodiversity. To conclude his visit to Nova Scotia, Prince Albert was invited to a dinner at the Canadian Forces Base in Halifax.

Prince Albert receives Honorary Doctorate from Thomas Jefferson University

After visiting Canada, the Sovereign Prince visited Philadelphia, the city where his mother Princess Grace was born. On Wednesday morning, Prince Albert was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa in Human Letters by the prestigious Thomas Jefferson University for his environmental work through his Foundation and for supporting the worlds of theatre, dance and film through the Princess Grace Foundation USA. Prince Albert then gave a speech to nearly two thousand people, including 650 new graduates of the University and their families, stressing the importance of defending our planet.

Charlotte Casiraghi and Beatrice of York attend Met Gala

Charlotte Casiraghi and Princess Beatrice of York were among the chosen guests of the Met Gala on Monday night in New York. The glamorous charity event is organized every year on the first Monday of May for the benefit of the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum. This year’s theme mixed fashion and religion as a nod to the institute’s new exhibition entitled ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’.  Queen Elizabeth’s granddaughter, Princess Beatrice of York, wore a custom dress by Italian designer Alberta Ferretti and adorned her hair with five rows of pearls.  Charlotte Casiraghi coordinated her outfit with celebrities Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kate Moss, Amber Valletta and Mica Arganaraz, who all wore very short black dresses. Charlotte Casiraghi’s Saint Laurent dress was dotted with small metal stars and  paired with black platform shoes.

Princess Caroline attended Medal presentation ceremony

Cultural Affairs Director of Principality of Monaco, Jean-Charles Curau was deemed worthy of French National Order of Merit (Ordre national du Mérite) award due to his efforts for recognition of Monaco and French culture. The award was presented by Monaco Ambassador of France, Marine de Carné-Trécesson to Jean-Charles Curau.
