#hello_monaco weekend: what to do on January 20th and 21st

This weekend in Monaco is undoubtedly dedicated to the magic of circus, however if you are looking for some additional ideas for this weekend, HelloMonaco prepared a few suggestion in this article.

As you probably already know the 42nd International Circus Festival has begun and will last till 28 January 2018.

The greatest circus festival in the world. Created by HSH Prince Rainier III, this festival brings together the most prestigious acts from the world’s great circuses where the highlight is the awarding of the “Clown d’Or”, considered as the supreme honour for artists in this discipline.

And this weekend on Saturday 20 January from 3 pm to 4 pm Espace Fontvieille there will also be an “Open Door Circus Show” featuring animal rehearsals with commentaries.

All sports fans are waiting for the French Premier League Football Championship game between Monaco and Metz on Saturday 20 January, Stade Louis II.

And a different sport to watch this weekend is sailing with Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series Act IV, organised by the Yacht Club of Monaco from Friday 19 January to Sunday 21 January, Baie de Monaco.

In line with the YCM’s proactive sailing policy, and initiated for the Melges 20 class in 2013 by Valentin Zavadnikov, then the J/70s, the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series offers a monthly programme alternating high level regattas and training weekends for one designs.

The format has caught on and today some 500 sailors from all over Europe establish their winter training base in the Principality to prepare for the upcoming season’s big meetings.

The theater is waiting for you with several pieces. Dictionary for Lovers of the Theatre”, theatrical performances by and with Christophe Barbier  on Saturday 20 January, at 6.30 pm and Sunday 21 January, at 2 pm in Théâtre des Muses.

33 minutes, 33 years, during which Christophe Barbier staged sixty pieces for his amateur troupe. To write, to build sets, to hunt costumes, to direct his comedians, represent his greatest happiness. Besides, do not you confess between two direct: “If the theater is not my job, it is my life! “

This breathtaking spectacle, because it is definitely one, from the 1,196 pages of his delightful “Theater Lover’s Dictionary”, offers us as many famous anecdotes as revelations and superstitions without which the theater would not be theater. At the end, the author-comedian continues, by three-quarters of an hour of a brilliant talk on the relationship between his two passions: theater and politics through the centuries.

And the other piece is “Let’s Dream”, theatrical performances by Sacha Guitry with Anthéa Sogno, Didier Constant and Christophe de Mareuil, alternating with Christophe Barbier on Thursday 18 January and Friday 19 January, at 8.30 pm, Saturday 20 January, at 9 pm, Sunday 21 January, at 4.30 pm in Théâtre des Muses.

After the 750 performances of “Victor Hugo, my love”, the “Compagnie Anthéa Sogno” returns to its passion for Sacha Guitry who reveals us this time, how to seduce the wife of a friend with the involuntary complicity of the husband. “Let’s dream”, a major and timeless work of the French repertoire, depicts the eternal love triangle “the husband, the wife, the lover” in a brilliant entertainment where the lover’s seduction, the dazzle of the woman and the comic of the husband. The dialogues are brilliant, the roles lively and precise … The actors delight in playing fantastic situations and the audience gloats.

Tickets range between 17 and 28 euros.

And if you like classical music  for you is another Great Season Series concert by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Simone Young with Elza van Den Heever, soprano on Sunday 21 January, at 6 pm Auditorium Rainier III.

On the programme: Ludwig van Beethoven and Alexander von Zemlinsky.

As a prelude to the concert, an introduction to the works at 5 pm by André Peyrègne
