#hello_monaco weekend: what to do on January 27th and 28th
The main event of this weekend is no doubt the Saint Devota Festival Celebrations however Monaco has much more to offer to its residents and tourists. And in this article we’ll tell you what not to miss in the next couple of days.
The 42nd Monte-Carlo International Circus Festival came to the traditional winners’ show, if you haven’t seen it yet, go there on Friday 26 January, at 8 pm Espace Fontvieille.
Tickets range between 30 and 90 euros.
Celebrations for Sainte Devote, patron saint of Monaco, will take place on Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of January. These celebrations are one of the oldest traditions in the Principality of Monaco. Since 1874, the tradition has continued every year: a boat is burned in the presence of the Sovereign and the Princely Family, accompanied by Monegasque personalities. Once the boat is burned, there is a firework display at Port Hercule. On the 27th of January, the feast day, a solemn Mass is celebrated in the Cathedral by the Archbishop of the Diocese.

A remarkable philosophical dispute, powerful and jubilant between the beautiful and ominous spirit Proudhon, hero of the revolution of 48, and the bubbling genius of life and desires Courbet who claims his freedom of creator will unfold during “Proudhon Models … Courbet”, theatrical performances by and with Jean Petrement, Alain Leclerc, Elisa Oriol and Yves Jeanbourquin on Friday 26 January, at 8.30 pm, Saturday 27 January, at 9 pm, Sunday 28 January, at 4.30 pm in Théâtre des Muses.
Another classical piece is on Sunday 28 January, at 3 pm in Opéra de Monte-Carlo – Salle Garnier : “The Tales of Hoffmann” by Jacques Offenbach with Juan Diego Florez, Olga Peretyatko, Nicolas Courjal, Sophie Marilley, Rodolphe Briand, Marc Larcher, Yuri Kissin, Antoine Garcin, Reinaldo Macias, Paata Burchuladdze, Christine Solhosse, the Chorus of the Monte-Carlo Opera and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Jacques Lacombe. Directed by: Jean-Louis Grinda. Organised by: Monte-Carlo Opera.
Basketball fans are to see the PRO A Basketball Championship game between Monaco and Levallois on Saturday 27 January at 8 pm Stade Louis II – Salle Omnisports Gaston Médecin.
And last but not least event to watch this weekend is the 86th Monte-Carlo Rally on from Monday 22 January to Sunday 28 January, Principauté de Monaco.
For the 86th Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo, the organising committee of the Automobile Club de Monaco has devised a route that is similar to last year with a few new and amended special stages.
This year, the rally will be held a week later than previously, to ensure there is more snow as well as to give teams greater time to prepare for the event after the end-of-year festivities.
In 2018, we will see the return of the new WRC cars introduced last year and improved over the last 12 months, as well as the introduction of new cars in lower categories. Look out for the new Citroën C3R5, the Hyundai i20R5 and perhaps the Toyota Yaris R5.
Prizes will be awarded to the teams during the traditional Prize-Giving Ceremony, held at 3:00pm at the Prince’s Palace and a gala dinner, at 8:30pm, will be held to close the first leg of the FIA World Rally Championship.
