Leisure & entertainmentWeekend in Monaco

Weekend in Monaco with #hello_monaco

This weekend in Monaco offers a variety of things to satisfy any interests: sailing competitions, matches, a theater play, opera music. And we will tell you about them.

On Friday in Monaco Bay starts Act V of the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series, organized by the Yacht Club of Monaco that will run all the way till Sunday 5 March.

After the success of the 3rd edition, which last year attracted 60-plus Melges 20 and J/70 teams, the Monaco Sportsboat Winter Series 2016-2017 is back to liven up the waters off the Principality this winter. Divided into five Acts scheduled once a month from October 2016 to March 2017, these regattas are designed to give experienced professional and amateur crews a chance to prepare at the highest level for the upcoming season’s big meetings.

Another event that starts on Saturday and lasts till the end of the weekend is the 2nd International Inventors’ and Creators’ Fair in Espace Fontvieille.

Monte-Carlo Opera prepared a Recital by Nathalie Stutzmann, contralto, accompanied on the piano by Inger Södergrenon on Saturday 4 March, at 8 pm. On the programme: Wesendonck-Lieder by Richard Wagner and other works. Unfortunately tickets were sold out well in advance. But luckily they are still available for another performance in the Monte-Carlo Opera this weekend: “Simon Boccanegra” by Giuseppe Verdi.

It will be performed with Ludovic Tézier, Sondra Radvanovsky, Andrea Mastroni, Ramón Vargas, André Heijboer, the Chorus of the Monte-Carlo Opera and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Pinchas Steinberg, organized by the Monte-Carlo Opera on Sunday 5 March at 3 pm and Wednesday 8 March, at 8 pm Opéra de Monte-Carlo – Salle Garnier.

Verdi was dissatisfied with the creation in Venice in 1857 of his Simon Boccanegra, an opera inspired by real events in the 14th century Genoa: the election of Boccanegra as the head of the city by the people. The plots of the patricians will finally succeed. When, twenty-five years later, Verdi was asked to prepare this piece for La Scala, he decided to completely revise the opera. It will be the opportunity to hear the baritone Ludovic Tézier who will approach the role of the Doge, as will Sondra Radvanosvky who will sing his first Amelia. Tickets range from €20 to €80.

And Théâtre des Muses this Saturday 4 March, at 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm will open its doors to the young audience for them to enjoy the show for children: “Bless You” (“A tes souhaits”) by F. Marra.

Nora hates her birthday. Rémi, her lover, asked her to marry him that day. A real nightmare for Nora, who does not want to grow! There is only one way left for her to try to save herself. A cake, a candle and a wish: to become a child again… For children, adults and all those who at least once in their lives have wanted to return to the age when everything seems possible.

There are two games this weekend, and though the match between Shalon and AS Monaco in PRO A Basketball Championship on 5 March some will see only on TV, as it’s not a home game, the football match is promissed to be very interesting. AS MONACO will meet with FC NANTES in French League 1, Day 28 on Saturday 5 March at 9.00 pm. It is a great chance to see ‘the best attacking team for the best price’ in a home game, as Stude Louis II has a special offer on tickets for this game: they cost only €2-€20. Don’t miss this chance.

And the last but not the least event on the list is the Monte-Carlo Film Festival prize awards evening on Sunday 5 March, at 8 pm Grimaldi Forum Monaco – Salle Prince Pierre. Monte-Carlo Film Festival is a worldwide unique festival dedicated exclusively to comedy movies.

This year, through the film selection, which comes from the Czech Republic, Spain, France, United Kingdom, Belgium, Denmark, Hungary, Japan, Italy, United States, we will show in preview the comedy tendency for the new year in the Principality, from the 1st to the 6th  of March, under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Italian Embassy in Monaco.
