Weekend in Monaco with #hello_monaco
Looks like this weekend in Monaco is about different forms of art: music and painting, indoors and outdoors, ancient and modern… And we’ll tell you all about.
Today in Grimaldi Forum has opened an absolutely unforgettable exhibition “The Forbidden City in Monaco: Imperial Court Life in China”. In the summer of 2017 the focus will be on the last imperial Chinese dynasty (1644–1911), with a celebration of its pomp and circumstance, its tastes and its grandeur. The Forbidden City is one of the most impressive palace complexes, and the world’s most popular tourist venue, with some 10 million visitors annually. Now both a palace and a museum, it served as the hub around which the new capital, Beijing, was organised. Created ex nihilo on the orders of the third Ming emperor, it was built at a single stroke between 1406 and 1420, and became the cradle of power for the Manchu dynasty for almost three centuries. It will be open till Sptember 10.
The pop-up UPAW artistic performance – Urban Painting Around the World, on 15 and 16 July, on the Quai Albert I – Port of Monaco, – is the highlight of summer 2017 in Monaco. It is organised by WSM Events and the Wizart Agency, with the artistic collaboration of Willem Speerstra and supported by Monaco Tourist and Convention Authority and the Town hall of Monaco.
Each UPAW event takes a different artistic approach. The theme chosen for Monaco is “Protecting the Oceans.” The artists will depict their artistic world on the chosen theme, in aid of a charitable association. When the paintings are completed, they will all form an open-air pop-up museum. Afterwards, the Artcurial auction house will be responsible for presenting and selling the artists’ work.
Monaco Bay this week is hosting another very interesting event: Monaco Solar & Electric Boat Challenge (solar-powered and electric boats) organised by the Yacht Club of Monaco from Thursday 13 to Saturday 15 July, Baie de Monaco. Port Hercule and its bay are the stage for an unusual spectacle with the Monaco Solar Boat Challenge for vessels powered only by the sun. Designed and driven by international university students, these revolutionary boats are the guarantee of a future where environmental protection and innovation will become inseparable. Organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco, this meeting is very much in line with the Principality’s desire to pursue a commitment it holds dear: to prepare today for a better tomorrow.
Dirty Dancing, from the screen to the stage! Acclaimed millions of spectators around the world, this new production of the musical recreated this year in Great Britain is filled with all of the magic of the cult film from 1987, which included actor Patrick Swayze. Once again adapted for the stage, it brings together all of the same sensual choreographies and all of the tunes of the best-selling band of all time: Time Of My Life, Hungry Eyes, Hey Baby and Do You Love Me? Tickets range from €36-€69.
Monte-Carlo Sporting Summer Festival continues this weekend with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concert at the Salle des Etoiles on the 15th of July 2017, for the !
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis took the world by storm in 2012 with the album “The Heist”, recorded and released independently. #2 on the Billboard 200, they went platinum with huge hits like Thrift Shop, Can’t Hold Us, and Same Love, their ode to tolerance vis-a-vis marriage for everyone, performed with Madonna on stage at the GRAMMYs®. “This Unruly Mess I’ve Made”, their new album, aimed at combining their favourite sounds of the 70s and 80s, is the most ambitious production they’ve attempted. With their new songs Downtown, Dance Off and Growing Up, they have already proved that “The Heist” was just the start of a promising future. Price 103,50 € per person.
For music lovers there is Symphonic concert by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Kazuki Yamada with Véronique Gens, soprano on Sunday 16 July, at 9.30 pm Palais Princier – Cour d’Honneur.
On the programme: Hector Berlioz and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.
In 1959, His Serene Highness Prince Rainier III and the Conductor, Louis Frémaux, inaugurated a summer season which, from year to year, has become a must for fans of international music. In July and August the Prince receives in the Court of Honor of the Palais, transformed into a magical musical venue, the outdoor concerts given by the Orchestra surrounded by prestigious soloists.
The Prince’s Palace concerts begin at 9:30 pm and continue until around 11 pm.
12th International Organ Festival continues with Olivier Vernet, organ and Mūza Rubackytė, piano, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs on Sunday 16 July at 5 p.m., Cathédrale de Monaco.
And there are quite a few interesting exhibitions to visit in Monaco. This week L’Entrepôt Gallery presented a new Exhibition: “Dissipatio HG” a project designed by Gino Gianuizzi with Amedeo Martegani, Dörte Meyer-Gert Bendel, Paolo Parisi, Marco Samorè , Eva Sauer and Wolfgang Weileder. It is open Friday 15 September.
