After its popular success a few years ago, the incredible interactive dance festival F(ê)aites de la Danse will be back in Monaco on 4 July 2020. Conceived by Ballet de Monte-Carlo choreographer Jean-Christophe Maillot, the first event brought together more than 28,000 people for a night of dancing on the Place du Casino.
Back in July 2017, Monaco hosted the first F(ê)aites de la Danse. For a full 8 hours, the entire Casino district became a huge open-air dancefloor. A multitude of artists, professional and amateur dancers were there with one mission: make everyone dance!
Keep it intimate
For the 2020 edition, Christophe Maillot intends to keep the design that worked so well in 2017. He doesn’t want to fall into the trap of making an extra-large version of the first festival, the intimacy of the first festival was what made it successful.
According to the choreographer, the idea will be to amplify what had worked well. On the Place du Casino, there will be 400 m2 stage which will be visible to all. The giant screens will be improved. Food that ran out quickly two years ago will be reviewed. And there will be no VIP area, as the event is supposed to be for everyone.
Although the decor will be similar to the first edition, the party will be longer! The choreographer is hoping to extend the festival until Sunday morning by finishing the event with a brunch. People who came in the early evening and went to bed could come back the next day. A morning detox, light dances, tai chi, yoga, well-being will help everyone digest the evening.
The festival plans to bring in Goran Bregovic, musical composer for Emir Kusturica’s films. His music has the capacity to inspire a crowd. If 10,000 participate in the dance choreography together, it will be another magical moment.
If we don’t see you on the dance floor next summer, not to worry, the festival will be back every two years!
