Prince Albert II has a special affection for Charles Leclerc, who will be the first Monegasque for almost a quarter of a century to compete in Monaco’s Grand Prix, since Olivier Beretta in 1994. The 20 year old driver has won everything in GP3 and Formula 2 in the last two years and started competing in Formula 1 this season in Australia, where he came in 13th place.

Prince Albert will be visiting the young driver at the Sauber stand later this week, before Charles Leclerc settles into his Alfa Romeo Sauber for the big race.

Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella meet Lewis Hamilton

Princess Charlene recently published a photo on Instagram of Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella driving a car with the caption “Getting ready for the GP”.  The photo was a clue for what was to happen on Friday afternoon, when the princely family surprised fans and photographers as they visited the Mercedes stand, where British four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton and his teammate Vallteri Bottas (both Monegasque residents) were waiting for them. A first for the princely twins, who, after a brief tour from the owner, were invited to hop on the famous MV Agusta motorcycle, designed by Lewis Hamilton.  After the exciting event, Princess Charlene and the twins returned to the palace, while Prince Albert continued to experience the Grand Prix.
