Aside from being the ultimate VIP event of Formula 1, the Amber Lounge has a list of celebrities hoping to get a coveted spot in one of the many locations around the world.  But this multimillionaire businesswoman didn’t start out anywhere near business. In fact, this Northern Irish mother of two started as a physiotherapist in England. 250 years ago, in 1768, a young equestrian named Philip Astley performed in London, in a field near Westminster Bridge, on a circular ring 13 metres in diameter, an equestrian show mixed with acts from the fair: jugglers, equilibrists, funambulists and even trained animals (dogs and monkeys). Modern circus was born … on horseback!

Monaco’s Anse du Portier Project Update: First Caisson is Afloat

The first of 18 caissons destined for Monaco’s Anse du Portier project has been completed.  Workers have been constructing the Marco Polo (the name of the caisson) since September in Marseilles. The completion of the imposing concrete structure, which draws 13 metres of water and is the most complex part of the project, has been set afloat before being towed to the Principality. Meanwhile, work has already begun on the next caisson.

On Sunday 19 November, after 194 hours of racing, the 2017 edition of NO FINISH LINE ended in the presence of HSH Prince Albert II.  This year’s numbers were higher than ever:

  • 12,967 runners and walkers (1,078 more than last year).
  • 436,963 kilometres traveled, 37,000 km more than the 400,000 km target and over 44,447 km more than last year.
  • 436,963 Euros will be donated to projects for sick and underprivileged children (1km = 1 euro). Over 3.5 million euros have been raised since the beginning of the NFL.

The Monegasque GDP (gross domestic product), for the year 2016 amounted to 5.85 billion euros against 5.64 billion in 2015. No matter how you look at it, Monaco’s economy did well in 2016, relative to its neighbours, relative to Europe and relative to the world. Monaco’s growth is nearly three times that of France. Last year, Monegasque growth was 3.2% against 1.1% for France, according to official statistics.

Going, going gone – it’s fitting that a car that broke records on the race track and a driver who broke Formula 1 records, as if he were tossing plates at the end of a Greek feast, were part of another record at the Sotheby’s auction in NY. A buyer paid $7.5 million for Michael Schumacher’s 2001 Ferrari F1 Car.

Flood of Medals for Monacos Shotokan Karate Club

Competitors from Monacos Shotokan Karate Club took part in the 4th Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra. The Monegasque club achieved amazing results, winning 9 medals including 1 gold, 2 silvers and 6 bronze. The Monaco Mens team won the gold, making them the European champions.  Congratulations to team members Eric Mathon, Mathieu Magara and Alexandre Blonda. The next Games will be held in 2020 in Tokyo Japan.
