“Jazz and Cinema” in partnership with the Monte-Carlo Jazz Festival by Thierry Jousse is organized by the Audiovisual Institute of Monaco on Monday 24 November 2025 at 8.30 pm in Salle Garnier – Monte-Carlo Opera.

The history of jazz in cinema in 12 chapters. From Vincente Minnelli’s first film, Cabin in the Sky, with Louis Armstrong and Vincente Minnelli, to the tribute to Dexter Gordon in Bertrand Tavernier’s Round Midnight, via the contribution of Elmer Bernstein (Otto Preminger’s The Man with the Golden Arm), Duke Ellington (Otto Preminger’s Anatomy of a Murder), Lalo Schifrin (Peter Yates’s Bullitt), Martial Solal (Jean-Luc Godard’s Breathless), Miles Davis (Louis Malle’s Elevator to the Gallows), John Cassavetes’ experiments with Charles Mingus (Shadows), Clint Eastwood’s with Charlie Parker (Bird) or the great documentaries (Jazz on a Summer’s Day, Straight no Chaser about Thelonious Monk, Let’s Get Lost about Chet Baker). A major journey through a multifaceted current that has profoundly influenced film music.
