The treasures saved from Télé Monte-Carlo

During the European Heritage Days, the Institute will continuously screen—from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.— a compilation film produced by the Audiovisual Institute using footage shot by Télé Monte-Carlo camera crews (2026, 40 min.).

Of the productions created by Télé Monte-Carlo during its first few decades, only a handful have survived to the present day. Over the years, the broadcaster discarded hundreds of reels, deeming them cumbersome or obsolete in the face of constantly changing programming. Others succumbed to the ravages of time: the film stock, sensitive to heat and humidity, gradually deteriorated. Fortunately, the Audiovisual Institute was able to restore some of these materials, which now stand as a testament to a preserved “heritage at risk.”

This archival program is the result of digitization, restoration, and documentation work carried out for a 2024 exhibition dedicated to Télé Monte-Carlo’s early years. Some of the material is presented here for the first time.
