The Red & Whites got back on track on Saturday with a deserved 2-0 defeat of Caen. Keita Balde put the home side ahead in the 20th minute with his first goal for AS Monaco. Sent through by an inch-perfect through ball by Lemar, the Senegal striker coolly slotted past Vercoutre (1-0).
Buoyed by the opener, the Monegasques ramped up the pressure on the Caen goal. Lemar sent a stinging effort narrowly over (34’), while Jemerson headed against the bar (36’), Rony Lopes was denied by Vercoutre (37’) and Tielemans tried his luck on the half-volley (43’), as Monaco came so close to adding a second before the break.
In the end it was Radamel Falcao who made the game safe, from the penalty spot (59’), his 13th goal of the season in Ligue 1! Subasic ensured his side were spared any late nerves by pushing a strike from Kouako onto the bar in the 78th minute. The valuable win sees AS Monaco consolidate second spot in the table, with a five point advantage over OM.
