Monaco clinched a victory during the Davis Cup tennis competition, with a 3-1 win against Cyprus on 14 September 2025. The tight games were won overall by teammates Valentin Vacherot and Romain Arneodo.
Monaco ended Cyprus’s five-tie winning streak, meaning they will return to the World Group I play-offs in 2026. Valentin Vacherot scored his second singled victory of the weekend, defeating Melios Efstathiou.Valentin Vacherot won in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 6-1). His teammate, Romain Arneodo, lost (7-5, 6-3).
Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot is one of the youngest player to join the FMT training camp. He was born in 1998 and started his first ITF tournaments end of 2015. He got excellent results right after starting when, in September 2016, he reached the final round of the Hammamet Future and the semi final the week after in Tunisia.
Thanks to this most recent victory, Monaco will head to a play-off match for promotion to Group I. In February 2025, Monaco narrowly lost a match during the Davis Cup against Portugal (3-2). The Davis Cup final match will be taking place on Sunday 23 November 2025.
Monaco first played in the Davis Cup back in 1929, almost 100 years ago. Over 80 Davis Cup matches have been played on Monegasque courts. Monaco reached the Europe/Africa Zone Group 1 semifinals twice in history: in 1981 and 1985. Monaco was also a Europe Zone semifinalist in 1972.
