The Grimaldi Forum’s colourful exhibition has received an impressive number of visitors this summer. Devoted to a modern history of colour through major 20th-century masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou collection, the exhibition is open for a few more days, until August 31, 2025.
“The exhibition ‘Colours! Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou’ seems to have won you over: more than 50,000 entries recorded to date,” said the Grimaldi Forum on August 15.
Devoted to a modern history of colour through major 20th-century masterpieces, the exhibition is curated by Didier Ottinger, deputy director of the Musée National d’Art Moderne.
Inaugurated by Prince Albert II
Wearing a colourful tie, the Sovereign launched the multi-sensory exhibition on July 7. Princess Alexandra and her partner, Ben Sylvester Strautmann were also in attendance.
Basquiat, Picasso, Matisse, Kandinsky…
On display are over one hundred works from thirty major artists, from Sonia Delaunay to Jean-Michel Basquiat and Pablo Picasso. Other featured artists include Amedeo Modigliani, Henri Matisse and Vassily Kandinsky.
At the heart of the exhibition, seven monochromatic spaces are enhanced by sound creations by composer Roque Rivas and olfactory ambiences developed by “nose” Alexis Dadier in collaboration with Maison Fragonard.
“These unique installations will enable visitors to experience colour not only visually, but also through hearing and smell,” says the Grimaldi Forum.
As an extension of the exhibition, iconic design pieces by Ron Arad, Jean Prouvé, Ettore Sottsass and Philippe Starck have been integrated into installations specially designed by Marion Mailaender, linking works of art and design objects. By recreating the ambience of interiors, the French architect and designer shows art in a different light, by immersing it in everyday life.
The exhibition’s scenography is the work of William Chatelain, head of studies and design spaces at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.
