Princess Charlene, Prince Albert II and their children, Jacques and Gabriella, gathered at Princess Antoinette Park for U Cavagnëtu, a special annual picnic that celebrates Monegasque culture, on Saturday, September 6. About 1,000 people came together for a festival that dates back to 1931 and was revived by Mayor Anne-Marie Campora in 1991.

La Paladienne traditional dancers performed in red and white apparel. A traditional mass was given by a representative of the Archdiocese of Monaco. Local specialties were served for dinner: Monegasque pie, socca, and barbagiuans. The mayor of Monaco’s twin city, Dolceacqua, attended the event and prepared cod fritters. Prince Albert II, in keeping with tradition, broke the traditional Monegasque fougasse with his fist.

Prince Albert II meets Mayor Edouard Philippe in Le Havre

The Sovereign traveled to Le Havre to meet with the city’s mayor, Edouard Philippe, to discuss decarbonizing ports and draw inspiration from the Normandy city, on September 4.The visit began with a visit to the waste treatment site at the former Dollemard landfills. Located at the top of a cliff, the site has accumulated nearly 450,000 m3 of construction waste. The Sovereign was interested in the site because of Monaco’s goals of treating waste in the most environmentally responsible way possible.

The Princely delegation then visited the RENAQ quayside cruise terminal, which accommodates cruise ships with electric quays, for “zero smoke” stopovers. Ships will be able to shut down their engines by connecting to the provided electricity. Monaco is also in the midst of electrifying its cruise ship port, on a smaller scale.

Prince Albert II then participated in a ceremony in memory of municipal employees who were victims of the bombings of September 1944. He then had lunch with elected officials and economic figures from the region. After lunch, the Prince visited cultural sites, including the Saint-Joseph Church, the Perret show apartment, and the André Malraux Museum.

Prince Albert II comments on the Future of the Monaco Grand Prix

Prince Albert II officially expressed his happiness about the future of the Monaco Grand Prix: on September 5, 2025, Formula 1 and the Automobile Club de Monaco officially formalized the extension of the Monaco Grand Prix in the F1 calendar until 2035. (The previous agreement, signed in 2024, ran until 2031.)

The Princely Family attend the legendary event every year and cheer on the competitors, including Monaco’s own Charles Leclerc. In 2024, Leclerc made history when he became the first Monegasque ever to win the Monaco Grand Prix. The announcement came during this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix in Monza.

“The renewal of the Monaco Grand Prix until 2035 is in keeping with a sporting and historical tradition to which the Principality remains deeply attached. I can only welcome this renewed commitment, which demonstrates a collective success, the excellence of our collaboration with Formula 1, and the unique place Monaco occupies in the international motorsport landscape,” said Prince Albert II in an official statement.
