Ballet Romeo and Juliet by Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo you can enjoy on 29-31 October at 7.30 pm and 1 November 2026 at 3 pm.

Created in 1996, the “Romeo and Juliet” ballet celebrates its 30th anniversary this year! Performed over 400 times on major international stages, the piece has become a signature work for the Company. In this narrative ballet, Jean-Christophe Maillot infused all the elements that would come to define the unique character of his repertoire. Starting from the premise that everyone knows “Romeo and Juliet”, the Choreographer-Director of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo refuses to simply retell Shakespeare’s literary masterpiece. Rather than tracing the feud between the Capulets and the Montagues step-by-step to its tragic conclusion, the choreographer revisits the play from a fresh perspective: the ballet draws us into the tormented soul of Friar Laurence, whose desire to do good ultimately leads to the lovers’ deaths. Jean-Christophe Maillot’s “Romeo and Juliet” unfolds as a flashback from the perspective of this distraught friar, wondering how events came to such a pass.
