“Le Passager clandestin” (“The Stowaway”) by the Arketal Company, organised by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Monaco on Tuesday 31 July, at 9.30 pm, Fort Antoine.
This is the story of a shepherd, Giovanni Pastore, who comes down from his mountains in Friuli to look for work in Europe, hoping to find “Heaven” on earth. He takes the route of emigration. Then, on 10 April 1912, dreaming of America, he boards the Titanic in Cherbourg. He secretly commits himself to cleaning the 3,177 dessert spoons for the use of first class passengers.
The past meets the present. Giovanni Pastore is a figure who symbolises outcasts – outcasts of yesterday and those of today, who face all kinds of danger to flee war or poverty.
This stage adaptation of Great Disaster for polyphonic quartet and puppets is full of emotion, affection and intelligence.
