Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

January 12, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 9:30 pm

Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra

Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Gustavo Dudamel organised by the Monte-Carlo Opera on Friday 12 January, at 8 pm Grimaldi Forum Monaco – Salle des Princes.

On the programme: Gustav Mahler and Hector Berlioz

Direction by Gustavo Dudamel – Co-production Monte-Carlo Opera

Founded in 1842, this legendary orchestra created, among others, Brahm’s 2nd Symphony, Bruckner’s 4th Symphony, and Richard Strauss’ Woman Without a Shadow. The live broadcast of its New Year concert, followed by more than 50 million spectators, gives it a unique visibility. If it has an incomparable musical identity, it is because each of its performers excels through their method of internal co-optation and their unique, idiomatically Viennese style. Directing this phalanx is a privilege only granted to the best: from Wilhelm Furtwängler, Karl Böhm, Herbert von Karajan, Claudio Abbado to Zubin Mehta. In Monaco, this privilege is granted to the young Venezuelan prodigy Gustavo Dudamel. This celebrated conductor is driven by the conviction that music is the vector that units and provides inspiration, especially among young people from all walks of life. In this way, he brings music everywhere and using every means made available to him by modern technology. The Monte-Carlo Opera, the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Gustavo Dudamel all benefit from the valuable support of Rolex, without which this exceptional collaboration could not take place.
