Bonjour, D.C.! United Airlines Brings Monaco to Washington

In 2025, United Airlines will enhance transatlantic travel by introducing a new seasonal air route between Nice and Washington D.C. expanding US travel for Monaco and Riviera residents. This marks a significant expansion for United, which already operates direct flights from Nice to New York, making it one of the few airlines serving Monaco and the Côte d’Azur with U.S. destinations outside of the Paris hub.

Starting May 25 and continuing through September 25 (pending government approval), the airline will offer four weekly flights aboard its Boeing 767-300. Passengers departing Nice can catch flights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays at 10:05 a.m., arriving in Washington D.C. by 1:55 p.m. local time. For those heading to the Mediterranean, flights from Washington will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, landing in Nice the following morning at 8 a.m. The service not only brings ease to American travellers vacationing in Monaco and on the French Riviera but also opens up efficient connections through Washington and New York for residents of Monaco and the Riviera to 78 destinations across the Americas.

25,000-square-meter expansion of Terminal 2

This new route follows a broader trend of regional airports in France, like Nice servicing Monaco, continuing to offer U.S. flights, even as Air France pulls back from its services outside Paris. Nice, however, has doubled down on its commitment to international traffic, particularly with a recent 25,000-square-meter expansion of Terminal 2. The airport aims to boost its annual capacity to 18 million passengers, solidifying its role as a key entry point for U.S. travelers to Monaco and the south of France.

In addition to increasing the number of available seats by 25%, United’s Managing Director of International Sales, Marcel Fuchs, expressed excitement about the airline’s growing presence in France. “This expansion provides more travel options for passengers, with seamless connections across the Americas,” Fuchs said. The route also complements United’s other services between Paris and major U.S. hubs, including year-round flights to New York, Chicago, and Washington, as well as near-year-round flights to San Francisco.

Tickets for the new Nice-Washington route are already available, with prices starting at €405 from Washington and €1,272 from Nice. The disparity in fares is reported as being partly attributed to the high demand for flights departing from France, alongside taxes on long-distance travel imposed by the French government.
