From Playground to Post-Bac: Navigating Monaco’s 2026-2027 School Enrolments Without the Headache

Monaco is once again opening the doors to its school community. This year, the journey from application to admission should be smoother than ever.

Monaco is once again opening the doors to its school community. This year, the journey from application to admission should be smoother than ever.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, families, both monégasques and resident, have a streamlined process ahead, embracing digital access and clearer timetables.

A Modernised System for Today’s Families

Gone is bulky paperwork and complex bureaucracy: the Government has redesigned its school enrolment procedures to make life easier. Instead of mountains of documents, families can now register online through the official portal MonGuichet.mc, available 24/7, with far fewer required supporting materials.

Still prefer old–fashioned forms? Paper applications remain available at schools for those who want one-on-one support.

This reform is part of the Government’s Extended Monaco programme, a broader push to make public services more digital, efficient, and user-friendly.

Key Dates to Remember

Timing matters, and Monaco’s schools have set clear windows for different stages of enrolment:

Nursery & Primary (Maternelle et Élémentaire)

• Deadline: 13 March 2026

• Eligibility: Children aged 3 or older, who are Monaco nationals or residents.

Secondary Education (Collège & Lycée)

Each school manages its own schedule:

Collège Charles III:

1 May – 19 June 2026

Lycées Albert I and Rainier III:

12 January – 19 June 2026

Institution François d’Assise-Nicolas Barré:

Enrolment by appointment.

Post-Baccalaureate Programmes

All applications for post-secondary studies are now bundled into a single application process, a new improvement designed to reduce confusion and administrative burden.

Period: 19 January – 1 April 2026

Sport-Study Classes

For student-athletes seeking special schedules to balance training and academics:

Application Window: 16 March – 15 May 2026

Living Outside Monaco — What to Know

Parents living outside the Principality, or families wishing to enrol children in schools outside their designated sector, must seek a formal derogation (exemption).

This request must be made to the Direction de l’Éducation Nationale, de la Jeunesse et des Sports (DENJS) before 1 May 2026.

What’s Changed

This year’s overhaul reflects a policy shift toward more accessible government services:

Digital First where portal access replaces much of the traditional paperwork, making applications possible anytime and from anywhere.  There are Fewer Documents: Monaco has reduced the number of required supporting materials, lowering the barrier for families.

This modernisation reflects Monaco’s commitment to using technology to enhance public services and support its diverse and growing school community.

Tips for Families

Start Early, even with online access, some forms (like exemptions) must be submitted well in advance. Double-Check Dates because schools operate on staggered schedules; don’t miss the specific deadlines for each level.

And Ask for Help if you’re unsure about digital forms, schools and DENJS continue to offer in-person support.
