Apocalypse in Italy : heavy storm destroyed luxury yachts
Coasts of Italy has been pounded by the waves of extreme weather, causing violent waves up to 10 meters and winds up to 180 km/h, breaking a lot of luxury yachts from their berths in Rapallo and killing at least 11 people. Local media are describing the landscape around the port of Rapallo as an apocalyptic.
Marina’s director told there were 390 yachts in the marina, with the half of them destroyed. There was storm barrier for 300 metres, rebuilt after the collapse in 2000, but it wasn’t enough for such an extreme event. City of Venice is reported to be 75% submerged. Among others, the yacht of Silvio Berlusconi was also damaged in disaster.

One man died after a 19-meter sportfisher vessel collided with 100-meter superyacht Attessa IV, near U.S.-Mexico border. “Loud. Something hit the boat hard. Like Bang! The whole right side of the deck was gone. The rail, everything. It looked like wow. Somebody just cut it off.” – one of the survivors said.
There were 27 passengers on the Prowler. This is not the first incident to occur on Attessa IV in recent years. In 2013, photographs surfaced of a helicopter that (due to high winds in the Mediterranean) had flipped over on the deck of the superyacht.
Some of the passengers of the sportfisher were transferred to Attessa IV, as all damage she got were scratches on the hull.
At 100 meters in length Attessa IV became Dennis Washington’s latest flagship and the 9th yacht to be owned by the American billionaire. Washington became acquainted with boating relatively late, he stepped on a boat for the very first time in 1979, when he was 45 years old. Washington’s most ambitious project however began just under two years later after Attessa III’s launch. Having become aware that Taiwanese shipping billionaire, Chang Yung Fa was looking to sell his 91-meter Evergreen, Washington flew out to Taiwan to inspect the hull in 2007.
The American billionaire bought the yacht and sailed it to his Vancouver facility for a refit. The refit process involved a new superstructure shape, interior layout, helipad and tender garage, which resulted in a completely new vessel. Lengthened by almost 10 meters, Attessa IV became the 24th largest in the world at the time of her relaunch in 2010. Amongst her standout features are a spa on the lower deck, a private cinema, a helipad and a multi-purpose room on the yacht’s sundeck with a Chihuly chandelier under a glass dome.
77-metre Quantum superyacht project by Ken Freivokh and Turquoise
Turquoise Yachts has once again teamed up with Ken Freivokh Design to create an exceptional new project. Quantum, based on the highly successful 77-meter Turquoise platform, benefits from Freivokh’s inspired exterior and interior design exhibiting many original characteristics. This 77-meter’s design is a quantum leap from any previous Turquoise yacht.
Perhaps the most exciting and unique feature is the offering of two swimming pools —salt water and fresh water— one above the other on the lower and main decks. A drive-in tender bay on the lower deck at the stern doubles as a saltwater pool within the beach club, allowing guests direct sea access. The seven-meter long fresh water pool on the main deck is largely positioned over the float-in lower deck pool and is designed with a hexagonal shaped glass grid, that allows sunlight to shine down into the beach club below. Besides the stunning aesthetics the light affords, there is a practical aspect whereby you can also board or disembark from the tender undercover.
In fact, a lot of thought has gone into tender access and stowage. In addition to the ‘drive-in’ garage, there is a starboard garage amidships which can house a large limousine tender, a 10-metre beach landing tender and either a six-metre watersports tender or a selection of jetskis.
The Lower Deck beach club and gymnasium have opening terraces port and starboard as well as aft and are accessible internally from the main saloon as well as externally via the stern platform.
The Main Deck saloon offers a vast open space with a rotating seating group, which can be arranged as a cinema- viewing facility. The formal dining room forward is capable of hosting a banquet for all fourteen guests.
On the Upper Deck, the owners’ have their own exclusive accommodations inclusive of a semi-circular family saloon opening to a panoramic terrace overlooking the pool area and the sea. The owners’ quarters include a pantry, nanny cabin and a private saloon/office, which opens directly to the atrium, with a balcony overlooking the amazing double height space. The master stateroom enjoys 180- degree panoramic views forward and to the sides, with outdoor access to forward seating and a private Jacuzzi adjoining the wide touch-and-go helipad.
3 Bilgin superyachts go back home for maintenance and wintering
Bilgin Yachts is a home to its previously launched yachts for the winter. After busy summer days cruising mostly in the Mediterranean 48-meter Nerissa, 45-meter Elada and 45-meter Tatiana are back home in the West Istanbul Marina.
The superyachts are now in the hands of the experienced team of Bilgin Yachts for the maintenance process. The shipyard always undertakes the after-sales maintenance and wintering of eldest Bilgin sisters.
Launched in July 2017, Nerissa is the first unit of Bilgin Yachts 156 series. to be continued with the new Lilium. Both yachts, while being under 500GT, have an arrangement that pushes the limits in terms of volumes of interior and exterior living areas. Striking this ideal balance was the objective of the collaboration with Unique Yacht Design. The result is a solid and captivating exterior design with large curved surface areas divided by rigid lines, poised to attract stares for several years to come. A prominent exterior feature is her sky lounge, a complete relaxation area with jacuzzi and surrounding seats.
