This past weekend, the Yacht Club de Monaco transformed into a vibrant tapestry of petals and creativity as it hosted the 56th International Bouquet Competition. Under the esteemed patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II and the presidency of H.R.H. Princess Caroline of Hanover, the event celebrated the theme “Fleurs en Mouvement” (“Flowers in Motion”), inviting floral artists from around the globe to showcase their dynamic interpretations of nature’s beauty.
A Symphony of Blossoms and Innovation
The competition’s theme inspired participants to craft arrangements that embodied movement and vitality. From swirling pastel compositions to grand displays reminiscent of multicoloured fireworks, each bouquet told a story of motion and emotion. The event featured seven categories, welcoming both seasoned professionals and budding young talents aged 6 to 14, fostering a sense of community and shared passion for floral artistry.
Celebrating Excellence in Floral Art
Among the many stunning creations, Swiss artist Margita Monnin, representing SAFA Geneva, stood out by clinching the prestigious Grand Prix Général – Prix Princesse Grace de Monaco. Her ethereal arrangement in the “Tourbillons Pastels” category also earned her the Insigne d’Or and the Prix de l’Harmonie des Couleurs, marking a remarkable triple accolade.
In the “Feux d’Artifice Multicolores” category, the dynamic duo Monique and Stella Gimenez from MG Fleurs & Création in France dazzled judges with their vibrant display, securing the Insigne d’Or. Italian florist Federico Silvestri’s elegant table decor in “Le Bal de la Rose” earned him top honours, while Marie-Alice Hivet’s nuanced composition in “Volutes en Camaïeu” captivated with its subtlety.
Nurturing the Next Generation of Floral Artists
The competition also shone a spotlight on young talents. Adriana Broyon from Monaco’s FANB school charmed judges in the 6–9 age category with her whimsical “Farandole de Fleurs, Fruits et Légumes,” earning the Insigne d’Or. In the 10–14 age group, Charlie Sinito’s imaginative creation secured the top prize, highlighting the event’s commitment to fostering creativity among youth.
Monaco En Fleurs: The Principality in Full Bloom
Complementing the bouquet competition, the inaugural “Monaco en Fleurs” window display contest brought a burst of floral artistry to the city’s storefronts. Inspired by the UK’s National Gardening Week, this initiative saw local businesses transform their windows into blooming masterpieces. Eleven Monte-Carlo emerged as the winner, with Le Petit Elfe and La Carterie Hallmark earning commendable mentions.
A Weekend of Floral Festivities
Beyond the competitions, attendees enjoyed a series of enriching activities. Sunday’s schedule featured enlightening conferences on topics ranging from the journey of orange blossom water to the history of botanical gardens, culminating in a captivating floral arrangement demonstration by Kévin Billard of Maison Fiori.
As the petals settle and the fragrances linger, the 56th International Bouquet Competition leaves behind a legacy of artistry, community, and a renewed appreciation for the dynamic beauty of flowers in motion.
