The Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra has officially unveiled an exciting summer program of concerts on the Princely Palace’s Cour d’honneur. Six concerts are on the agenda, including an exceptional event: Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio. All concerts will take place on Thursdays and Sundays in July and August at 9:30pm.
Brilliant young violinist Daniel Lozakovitch, who was the Philharmonic’s soloist in residence two seasons ago ,will be performing on Thursday, July 10, conducted by Lawrence Foster. The musician will be performing three pieces, including Beethoven’s ‘The Creatures of Prometheus Overture’.
Next up will be pianist brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen, conducted by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra’s own, Kazuki Yamada. Together they will also perform three pieces, including Félix Mendelssohn’s ‘Concierto for 2 Pianos in E Major’.
Perhaps the most anticipated concert this summer will be Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio. This is the only concert of the series which will be taking place in the Salle des Princes of the Grimaldi Forum, not at the Princely Palace. Kazuki Yamada will be conducting the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, with vocals by the CBSO Chorus and the Rainier III Academy Children’s Choir.
Paul McCartney composed the Liverpool Oratorio in collaboration with Carl Davis to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in 1991. In eight movements, this oratorio tells the story of Shanty, a man born during the Second World War, addressing themes such as family, work, war, and hope. Although the story is fictional, it contains autobiographical elements inspired by Paul McCartney’s own life. The album, recorded live in 1991 and released by EMI Classics, was a huge commercial success, reaching the top of the classical music charts on both sides of the Atlantic.
