Princess Charlene and Prince Albert II attended the official signing of a partnership agreement between their respective foundations on Wednesday 27 May 2026 during the 17th Monaco Blue Initiative. The new agreement aims use the universal language of sport to inspire, unite, and mobilize people around ocean protection.

The partnership was signed by Anne Boggio, Director General of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation, and Romain Ciarlet, Vice-President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation.

“This year, our two Foundations have forged a partnership around sport and the environment,” said the Sovereign Prince in his speech. Prince Albert II went on announce that the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation will host an upcoming event to raise awareness about the Pelagos Sanctuary, which protects marine animals in the Mediterranean.
Princess Charlene then revealed more details about the first collaboration between the two foundations: the Together Crossing for the Pelagos Challenge.

“By combining sport with ocean conservation, my Foundation intends, through The Crossing, which will take place in June, to inspire commitment, promote the protection of the Mediterranean, and demonstrate that human achievement and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand…. It will be an invitation to take a fresh look at the fragility and richness of an exceptional marine ecosystem,” said Princess Charlene.
Pelagos Water Bike Challenge
The water bike crossing will take place from Viareggio, Italy, to Monaco on 19 and 20 June. Spanning 87,500 km² between France, Monaco, and Italy, the Pelagos Sanctuary is the first transboundary area in the Mediterranean dedicated to the protection of marine mammals. Nourished by a high concentration of plankton, this area is home to remarkable biodiversity, including several species of whales and dolphins.

The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has consistently focused on the ocean since its creation in 2006. The Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation focusses on sport, education, and water safety. By combining sport, philanthropy, and environmental responsibility, the two foundations aim to highlight issues highlighting our human connection to the sea: drowning prevention, swimming education, and marine conservation in the Mediterranean. Other joint initiatives will be unveiled in the coming months.
