Sparks of Sustainability: Which Electric Champions Were Honoured at the Prince’s Palace?

On the Place du Palais Princier, watched by Prince Albert, the 11th Riviera Electric Challenge (REC) reached its conclusion. What began as a bold rally of eco-driving, regularity tests and regional discovery across more than 300 km ended as a statement: sustainable mobility is not just a vision, it is increasingly a vibrant reality.

A Royal Finale to an Eco-Odyssey

The Riviera Electric Challenge has, since its foundation,  sought to marry two sometimes divergent goals: the pleasure of the drive, and the imperative to reduce one’s carbon footprint. Over its two-day journey from Cagnes-sur-Mer, threading through the Italian hinterland via Dolceacqua and then returning to Monaco, participants negotiated winding roads, tight time windows, and energy management puzzles.

As teams rolled into the palace square, the atmosphere was one of festive anticipation even though this was not a high-speed race, but a celebration of precision, endurance, and environmental consciousness.

In customary fashion, Prince Albert himself presided over the awards ceremony, personally recognizing crews that excelled not only in competitive categories, but also in promoting broader values of conscientious mobility.

The Riviera Electric Challenge

The Riviera Electric Challenge weaves together the interests of municipalities, companies, and institutions across France, Monaco, and Italy. Its route, touching villages that echo centuries of regional history, underscores progress and heritage.

By combining scenic routes, competitive tests, and public visibility, the REC acts as a mobile showcase. Electric vehicles not only belong on the road, they belong in daily life, in public fleets, in regional tourism, and in the negotiations of local planning.

The REC is contributing to a European momentum in sustainable mobility.

A Prince Committed to the Green Horizon

Prince Albert has long been not only a symbolic patron but an active advocate of ecological causes. Since founding the Prince Albert II Foundation in 2006, he has focused on three strategic fronts: combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and stewarding water resources.

Monaco has become a hub for clean‐energy summits, marine conservation efforts, and mobility experiments. The EVER Monaco exhibition (Ecologic Vehicles & Renewable Energies) is one such platform. It annually gathers innovators, startups, and policymakers in the fields of sustainable transport and renewable energy.

Driving Toward Tomorrow

Beyond the competitive edge, the 11th edition of the REC is reshaping mobility. In a region where winding roads, steep climbs, cross-border routes and tourist flows intertwine, proving that electric vehicles can perform carries practical weight.

Electric mobility will continue not as niche novelty, but as the natural evolution of how we move through the Riviera and beyond.

Until next year, may the roads be smooth, the currents light, and the spirit undimmed.
