Organized by the Monegasque Rugby Federation, in partnership with the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation and the Department of National Education, Youth and Sports, the initiative once again celebrated both art and athletic spirit. Nearly 160 students, precisely 158 young artists, 12 to 15 years old, from grades 6 to 9 (grades 3 to 6 in the French system)  took part in this challenge: to imagine a rugby jersey that would unite the vibrant symbols of Monaco and South Africa, along with the emblems of the Federation and the Foundation.

The theme, symbolically linking Princess Charlene’s native South Africa and her adopted home of Monaco, reflected the values of unity, friendship, and respect that lie at the heart of both sport and the Princess’s personal story.

Over the course of five creative weeks, guided by their art teachers, the students poured their imagination and national pride into their designs. The result? A dazzling collection of artistic expressions that brought together sport, culture, and youthful dreams.

Accompanied by her brother, Mr. Gareth Wittstock, Secretary General of the Princess Charlene Foundation, the Princess warmly congratulated all the participants, highlighting their dedication and inventiveness. In front of a cheering crowd, she praised the exceptional work of the 17 finalists, before announcing the three standout winners of this year’s edition.

The moment of triumph came for Yohann Fonkoa, a talented 9th-grade student, whose design perfectly captured the spirit of unity and dynamism at the heart of rugby. Yohann’s creation will be worn by the Monegasque U16 national rugby sevens team at the Dubai International Tournament later this month. As an additional honour, he will receive a unique jersey signed by the team’s players, a cherished keepsake marking this memorable achievement.

Following the ceremony, Princess Charlene spent time chatting with the students, admiring their sketches, and signing their artwork. The atmosphere was radiant, filled with laughter and camaraderie.
