Princess Charlene’s powerful Women’s Day Message
On 8 March, International Women’s Day, Princess Charlene expressed a powerful message: “Too often, we forget that women’s power does not need to be created; it needs to be unleashed. Equality is not a favour; it is a right that must be fully exercised, everywhere and for everyone. This March 8th, my wish is simple: that every young girl may dream without barriers and act without fear,” said Princess Charlene. Several events celebrating women’s day took place across the Principality on the days leading up to 8 March, including an event by Pink Ribbon Monaco. Princess Charlene is the Honorary President for the breast cancer awareness association.
Prince Albert II attends Rencontres Internationales: Monaco, Ulysses and the Mediterranean at the Oceanographic Museum
Prince Albert II officially inaugurated the 13th Rencontres Internationales on 5 March 2026 at the Oceanographic Museum. This year’s theme was “With Ulysses Through All Times”. In his address, the Sovereign highlighted the way this year’s theme connects classical mythology with contemporary reflection.
Prince Albert II emphasized a significant cultural discovery linked to Monaco’s own heritage: the restoration of the Prince’s Palace frescoes. The central ceiling painting in the throne room is a scene from the Odyssey, when Nekuia of Ulysses consults the spirit of the seer Tiresias in the underworld to learn the fate of his journey. The Prince noted that several other episodes from the Odyssey appear in the surrounding lunettes of the ceiling, demonstrating how Renaissance artists integrated Homer’s epic into princely iconography. Prince Albert II also stressed the continuing relevance of Ulysses today. The hero’s voyage, he observed, echoes humanity’s own search for meaning and resilience in the face of contemporary challenges, including the need to preserve the environment and build a more sustainable future.

While the region is increasingly coveted for hydrocarbon deposits and new shipping routes, Prince Albert II defended the Arctic as a crucial issue for humanity. The Sovereign said that the Arctic’s climate and resources concern us all, and its indigenous communities must be respected, listened to, and fully involved in decisions that shape the future of their territories.
