Educating children on Larvotto beach
The ‘Bibliomer’ installation gives young people a chance to explore the marine world through a playful workshop installed on the beach’s esplanade.
Youth participation begins instantly. “You saw the white shark? Its tail is much different from the one you’ve chosen!” Hugo Behrens, host of the Marine World Discovery Centre (CDMM), says these words to a boy attracted by the stand dedicated to cetaceans and the preservation of the seabed. Throughout the summer, the Bibliomer device offers young people the opportunity to explore the marine world through a playroom that was installed on the Larvotto esplanade last week. Book baskets rub shoulders with several tails from different aquatic animals… in cartoon form.
“We are making memories to enable young people to learn about the different species that are abundant in the Mediterranean,” says Marine Clozza, who has been responsible for the CDMM travel library for three years. The costs of installing the library are undertaken by the community, which hosts them.
“The Games are transported back by the organizing association in Nice,” says Ludovic Aquilina, member of the Direction of the Environment. Young Monegasques are benefiting from this installation for the second consecutive year, with an emphasis on a partnership with the ‘Garden of Awakening’ located about ten meters from the stand, planted in the warm sand of Larvotto beach.
Raising awareness among young people
Not just one or two, there are a dozen children on the plastic chairs scattered around a “Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sun!” activity about the environment. Raising awareness for young children and their parents too. “These children are tomorrow’s adults, who will be able to apply these reflexes towards preserving biodiversity,” Ludovic Aquilina confirms. And there will be twice as many chances for children to learn this season, with a second instalment on Monday 7 August, from 4pm to 7pm. Between two showcases on the Rock, the CDMM caravan will teach about aquatic life in ten cities on the French Riviera including Cagnes-sur-Mer, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Nice.
