First 42m E-volution yacht launched by Perini Navi

Italian builder Perini Navi has launched its first 42-metre hybrid sailing yacht out of their E-volution line, where the ‘E’ stands for electric. The construction process is now half completed, and the yacht was lowered into the waters at the company’s Istanbul facility. She will be further towed to Viareggio to undergo finishing construction strokes.

The yacht’s concept was first presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2017, featuring aluminium hull and lifting keel. She was sold in July, 2018 to Italian owner, with her delivery scheduled to 2020.

While the yacht’s naval architecture was designed by US-based Reichel-Pugh studio, the head of Perini Navi in-house design department developed the yacht’s exterior styling. The design concept trademarks a foldable transom door, giving staircase access to both sides of a sea-level alcove. A sail drum storage is situated below deck, whilst carbon fibre helm pods lay at the aft.

42-metre E-volution can accommodate up to ten guests on-board, within a master suite and three guest cabins. Furthermore, the yacht also comprises a bonus room that can serve as either a fifth cabin or cinema.

4 Silent 80 solar-engine catamarans under construction

Austrian company Silent-Yachts, currently the only producer of solar-electric ocean-going luxury catamarans anywhere in the world, has released news that it has sold four models in its Silent 80 flagship series. It was previously called the Silent 79 and was sold to a South African client and it’s going to be delivered in early 2020. 3 other units are also due for a late 2020 delivery. All catamarans are under construction in Ancona, Italy.

The light-weight Lithium-Batteries provide ample energy for the propulsion as well as for all household appliances – 230 V, day and night – 24/7 – for television, air-conditioning, ice-machine, watermaker, laptop and much more…..

No need to search for a marina to charge the batteries, to get ice, to refuel or to fill your watertanks. Energy, always available, like at home. Production of up to 3.000 liters of drinking water a day grants you a kind of comfort you would not have considered possible up to now with solar power sources.

The Silent 80 has been designed inside and out by Marco Casali of Too Design. Naval architecture, meanwhile, has been undertaken by MICAD. The concept was created by Silent Yachts chief executive Michael Köhler.

The solar panels are integrated in the roof and the batteries and electric-motors are inside the boat in a dry place. All components are virtually free of maintenance. So the running-costs are much lower than on a comparable conventionally powered catamaran. Solar panels have a guaranteed life-span of more than 25 years. After that time it will be quite cheap to replace them according to the yard. The electric motors are completely free of maintenance. Due to their sensationally low weight, the streamlined shape, Silent-Yachts have less wave drag than other sailing- or motor-yachts.

Designer Marco Casali tried to achieve an interesting Italian design, sophisticated and refined while imagined the interior and exterior of yacht. Social areas are equipped with a lounge and bar. The forward area is fitted with a sofa and sunpads. The 80 model is available in different versions and can accommodate up to10 guests in five cabins. These can either feature a double bed or two singles. The owner’s front cabin features an en-suite and walk-in office with a desk, locker storage and large mirror. 

Without an engine room, the Silent 80 also has enough space for a 4.5 metre tender, and gyrocopter which is quite impressive for a yacht under 24 metres long.

3rd Custom Line 120 sold to Asian client

Ferretti Group have confirmed the sale of a new Custom Line 120 to an Asian client. The yacht sold through Camper & Nicholsons Asia and the Ferretti Group Asia Pacific office is currently in production in La Spezia, Italy.

The Ferretti Group’s Asia Pacific office and Camper will remain involved in the project as project managers and technical surveyors during the remaining build stages until delivery to her Asian client takes place later this year.

Custom Line 120’ first was introduced in 2017, this third unit will come with a metallic grey hardtop to match her sporty style. The yacht’s interior spaces will be tailored by the shipyard according to the client’s exact needs.

The design of the hull shapes and lines is totally new and will be realised by assembling the built structures together to ensure maximum strength and lightness using a carbon.

The profile is powerful with strong lines going from bow to stern, giving life to an exciting scene of the dark windows; the cockpit is covered in metallic grey, that is give a more aggressive and dynamic look while in port or cruising.

An additional fourth unit of the Custom Line 120′ model is also currently under construction and is expected to be launched in 2019 as well.

Lurssen delivers 136m superyacht Flying Fox for serial owner

Project Shu, the 136-meter Lurssen new build, has now been delivered and renamed Flying Fox. Now the world’s 14th largest yacht, Flying Fox has left Germany for Norway according to AIS data. The previous yacht to cruise under that name was a 74-meter Nobiskrug.

With an exterior by Espen Oeino and an interior by Mark Berryman, the yacht’s key features include two helipads, capable of hosting the largest helicopters out there. Another highlight of the 136-meter Flying Fox is the large swimming pool located aft of the main deck. The superyacht also boasts large sea terraces, swim platforms for watersports.

Stretching across a beam of 20.5-meters, the yacht had previously completed sea trials in March and May 2018.  Interior design reportedly centres around neutral tones and a calm and spacious interior.
