Monaco Yacht Club Honoured at Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2021

The Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht race is one of the toughest in the World and typically takes over two and a half days over the more than 1000 kilometres.

So tough is the race, due to the severe weather conditions on rough southern seas, that in the first 24 hours 22 of the boats were casualties out of the 88 that started.

Organised by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia, the 2021 edition was the 76th of this outstanding race.

About as far away from Monaco Yacht Club as you can get, yet the race has such prestige that MYC throws the best at it to win the laurels. And win them the team did on the 100 foot monohull Black Jack of Peter Harburg for a fantastic close to 2021 on December 29th.

What a New Year’s present for Peter Harburg and his team and Monaco Yacht Club.

Perseverance has clearly paid off for MYC member Peter Harburg who after several attempts wins the event. For the first time he was not on board having decided “to let the crew do what they do best” and leave it in the expert hands of his skipper and long-time friend Mark Bradford. For Black Jack this is the second Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race victory, 12 years after winning it under the name Alfa Romeo in 2009.

The Podium Results

Black Jack flying the YCM’s burgee was first almost three hours ahead of Australian Maxi LawConnect in 2nd after a fierce battle. The Hong Kong based SHK Scallywag came 3rd around 20 minutes later.
