There is something quietly magical about walking into a familiar space and suddenly questioning whether it has always looked that way.
One morning this summer, guests stepping into the Lobby Bar of the legendary Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo may find themselves doing exactly that.
The reason is Woodland Rêverie, the latest artistic installation in the hotel’s ongoing series of seasonal “Métropole Moods”, immersive transformations that turn the Lobby Bar into a living work of art four times a year. More than decoration, these temporary creations are designed as emotional experiences, changing the atmosphere of the space and inviting visitors to see it anew.
This summer’s edition is perhaps the most poetic yet.

A Forest Built from Reflections
At first glance, the installation appears almost impossible.
Towering mirrored columns rise between two and four metres into the air, catching fragments of light, architecture and movement. Guests become part of the artwork itself as their reflections mingle with the room’s elegant surroundings.
Wrapped around these vertical structures is a carefully orchestrated explosion of greenery. Hydrangeas, anthuriums and cascading amaranth weave their way upward, punctuated by delicate pastel-yellow accents that seem to glow beneath the Mediterranean light.
The effect is both natural and surreal.
The mirrors create an illusion of endless height, while the vegetation softens the geometry with organic movement. Looking across the room, it becomes difficult to distinguish where the installation ends and the reflections begin. Perspectives shift. Shapes multiply. The eye wanders.
It is less like entering a hotel lobby and more like stepping into a dream.

A Reflection of Modern Life
Behind the beauty lies a deeper idea.
Created by Perrine Guyonnet, Woodland Rêverie explores one of the defining tensions of contemporary life: the contrast between constant acceleration and our growing desire to reconnect with nature.
The mirrors represent the speed and visual intensity of modern existence, where images surround us and attention is constantly pulled in multiple directions. The plants, by contrast, offer a moment of pause. They act as a visual exhale, a reminder of slower rhythms and simpler pleasures.
Together, these opposing forces create an installation that feels surprisingly emotional.
There is movement, but also stillness.
Energy, but also calm.

Created Overnight
Part of the fascination lies in how suddenly these transformations appear.
Each Métropole Mood begins with mood boards, textures, seasonal inspirations, cultural references and fashion influences. Then, in a single night, the concept is brought to life.
Guests who visited the evening before return the next morning to discover an entirely different atmosphere.
Perhaps that is why the first reaction is often disbelief.
Wasn’t this space different yesterday?
Or has it always been here?

A Cocktail Inspired by a Forest Dream
No Métropole Mood would be complete without a signature creation from the bar.
For Woodland Rêverie, the mixologists have crafted Opaline.
Built around tarragon-infused vodka, apple juice and bright citrus notes, the drink unfolds with layers of basil freshness and a subtle hint of mustard spice. A dry shake technique creates a silky foam that floats atop the cocktail before it is served over a large crystal-clear ice cube in an Old Fashioned glass.
The result is refreshingly herbal, lightly fruity and intriguingly complex.
For those avoiding alcohol, a mocktail version offers the same aromatic journey.
The Art of Reinvention
Since its opening in 1886, the Hôtel Métropole Monte-Carlo has mastered the art of timeless elegance.
The grandeur imagined by celebrated designer Jacques Garcia remains the foundation of the hotel.
By complementing it with Woodland Rêverie, the hotel has created a place where mirrors seem to grow trees, and where, for a moment, Monaco’s relentless pace gives way to a dream.
